What is the best thing about Half Life 2? The story? Are you the type of person that is all into graphics? Or are you the kind of person that just loves the fighting (action) aspect of it?
I don't think one is better than the other, I think they all come together to make the perfect FPS. If you lost one of those, you would lose the awesomeness that is Half Life.
I said all of the above. But I am personally more interested in the story of games rather than the fighting part of it. I love the story but I guess it wouldn't be much of a story without great realistic graphics. I played 10 minutes of Half Life and I just couldn't continue with it because the graphics were just too old lol. I was amazed at how detailed and realistic Half Life 2+ looked. Very cool. It just makes you feel like your really there and really apart of the experience.
EDIT: I thought I posted this in the Half Life 2 section. Sorry about that. You can move it there if you have to.
Story and gameplay for me. Things like the locations, environments, settings and style, mainly, but yeah. As I've said, I played through HL2 in it's lowest graphical settings and it still blew me away.
The thing that's awesome about the story is the way they tell it. It's very well woven in with the gameplay, and I'm glad it lacks the cutscenes that traditional games have. You see the story unfold exactly as if you were Gordon Freeman, and no game ever puts you in the shoes of the protaganist better than HL2. Halo doesn't even come close.
For me, Episode One's greatest feature was Alyx as a sidekick. She's easily the best one I've had in a video game, and it's sometimes more fun to watch her kill things than to do it yourself. Most of the time, you genuinely could benefit from her assistance, and I felt like she was a teammate rather than a bothersome tag-along. Despite the fact that she was with you 90% of the time, she never got annoying (thanks to the fact that she didn't prod you or nag you, which according to the commentary the developers foresaw as a potential problem).
Episode One's graphics were also a bit better than HL2's.
