The Streets (British Rap)

I dont like rap, atall, I really hate it. However there is just one band I cant get enough of- "The Streets", I think it must be the english accents and the topic of growing up in england, I guess I can identify, which I cant with da gangstas from da hood to be honest. Try out "fit but you know it", it just has an unaviodable charm about it. Thoughts?
 
I hav hear one song of that band but I didnt know it was rap

edit: but french rap, french rap is f'ing awesome
 
I can't really agree that The Streets is rap but I do agree they are good.
I didn't really like their first album "Original Pirate Material" as it sounded all too jungely and RnB for me...
But when I heard "A Grand Don't Come For Free" their latest album, I was literally blown away by the different range of styles.
It goes all the way from slow, moody beats into some quite frantic, adrenaline enducing tunes....
The one thing I want to ask is if you agree with me about the fact that when you listen to the album all the way through it sounds like a story....

The way this song goes is simply amazing, a completely depressing song about a bad day that we've all had but then...
it reverse's and we hear how things COULD have gone and how much of a good day he could have had.....
 
:dozey: Dislike them. There's other better UK artists out. I don't know many, but check out Styles of Beyond, one of the group members is somewhere from europe or something.
 
There's only one "rap" style "band" I hate more than "The Streets" and that's "Goldey Looking Chain", they're the biggest chavs on the face of the planet.

Also, my music taste tends towards the alternative. But that does not mean that I can't approach something new with an open mind and even allow myself to actively enjoy it if just happens to be good.

The Streets are just a little bit different to the norm, and are one of the many bands that fall outside of my main genre of choice that I allow myself to enjoy.

I think some people need to actually listen to music, rather than dismiss is as "chav scum".
 
GLC have no visible talent though, I gain no pleasure what so ever from listening to their moronic rantings.

If they are trying to be ironic then they're taking the irony way over the top, beyond what I would consider humerous.

It isn't rap. I personally dont like it, but i can see how some do. And Mike Skinner sounds like the typical Chav.

Ok so its garage two step or what weird thing people keep classifying it as. As far as im concerned its centerd around a guy rapping, so its rap. Harumph
 
The streets suck. I dont mind some rap but this is crap.
Oh and despite what i thought before Goldey looking chain are actually a decent group for comic reasons :D

It's not rap, it's garage with intelligence, wit and soul. Garage is usually a complete insult to everything ever. But The Streets are just so fantastic.
Skinner might be a complete scally (I f*cking hat the word "chav" so much... <Shudders>), but he's not stupid and he's very creative. I really think he'd be an honestly nice guy, he still seems very grounded.
 
I gotta hear these guys, as an american, the thought of british rappers sounds pretty weird (probably because of the accent, people over here refer to the british as rich, fancy people).

edit- Just listened to them, they sound horrible. It was the worst sound my ears ever had to endure!!!! They sound like a bunch of 5 year olds trying to put rhymes together. Put on some 50 cent or Snoop Dogg if you want to hear real rap.

There's also a far bigger wealth gap in the U.S. for example the middle classes have more but the lower classes have less. So it depends on how you look at it.

Ok lets not get started on politics please. All I was saying is that most americans refer to the british as rich tea drinking fancy people. Back on topic, Snoop Dogg and 50 cent are much better rappers than "The streets". When I listened to the streets my ears started bleeding. I thought I was listening to a bunch of kindergardeners trying to put together rhymes.

I am not that much of a fan of The Streets, but in my opinion he's not as bad as people seem to think he is here.. It's not exactly rap either, it's more in the terms of triphop. I don't see what's so bad with the style of speaking out of rythm with the music, it's just another type of art. Some artists make it sound very good that way.

:naughty: That line you just sampled from Snoop was one of the weakest shit I have ever heard, might be better than some the lines from The Streets, but hell there's plenty other MC's tearin' him up.

The Streets have a very british sound, as in...a bit different to the tens of thousands of crap artists coming from across the pond.
 
If I ever met Mike Skinner (from The Streets), then I'd smash his skull in with a length of metal pipe, before filling his cranial cavity with jam and ramming him headfirst into the biggest killer ant nest I could find.

I do not want my Britishness associated with The Streets thanks, I'd rather British sounds be portrayed by much more talented artists... Franz Ferdinand, Keane, Tom Jones, Charlotte Church...
seriously, atleast these guys can write and sing.
The Streets is just chav-been-thrown-out-the-pub banter to a backing track, it's rubbish.

DJ Shadow is great (in fact I was going to order another record soon), but Rjd2 is way better, in my opinion.
