The Tech report / Gabe

wow great post.

really clears the questions about nvidia/ati up

and it looks like nvidia better pull a rabbit out of their hat with their next generation of dx9 vid cards

NVIDIA is a bunch of panzys that cant take the punch in the gut from ATI. :bounce:

Ouchies.

Amazing how a game can so totally upset the balance of power, more than anything else. Anyone know if Nvidia's stock is taking a hammering?

NP, I was glad to help out, if you reread the article there are some major problems Valve points out, most people have known about Nvidia's direct X 9 problems and how it will most likely only be playable in direct X 8.1, but I'm more concerned by the quote:

"He also mentioned that he's seen drivers detect screen capture attempts and output higher quality data than what's actually shown in-game.".

It doesn't specify which card/drivers pulled that, but it doesn't bode well for Nvidia. Add that to fact that Valve says that implementing and optimizing the specific nv3x path took 5X longer then it took for the standard direct x 9 path and you'll see just how committed Valve has been to nv3x card owners by pulling the slack for Nvidia.

"Available september 30th for testing upcoming hardware and drivers"

What does that mean? Is the benchmark he's talking about hl2 itself or does it really seem that september 30th is just the date for the public benchmark or does that mean that hl2 and benchmark are released together? (maybe he means that the benchmark is integrated in the game itself?)

Just simply, what does he mean?

it says the benchmark is integrated in HL2 and that the benchmark will be released september 30. in other words Halflife 2 will be out september 30th but they dont want to say that. laugh
