I ran a quick check of this forum, but couldn't find anything, so here goes;

Does anyone else find that the fact that Gordon is the subject of the expansion, which takes place right after the climax of HL2, a little, well, odd? The G-man's just made a mysterious speech about 'if and when your time comes up again' or somesuch, and you just plunge straight back into the same situation...

Anyone got any theories as to how Valve will implement this storyline wise? It seems a little odd.

Maybe it will be swipe left. Or fade out.....

There is probably some unforseen consequence that makes g-man take gordon out of the time chambor.

I can't think up any scenario that is feasible. I hope Laidlaw is more imaginative than I am.

You'll probably see a black screen and hear a voice:
"Gordon! Gordon! I won't lose you to, like I lost my mother! GORDON!!
Wake up Gordon, Wake up and see the destruction!!"

Then your eyes slowly open and a HDR blur-effect will be used so that the player understand that Gordons pretty messed up...

"Oh, Gordon...I thought I had lost you, I'd never forgive myself."

Then your vision becomes clear and Alyx is standing leaned over you and she helps you up. Then the game begins:
"Mr. Freeman, are you ready to kick some Combime-ass?" says Barney after you escape the burning inferno.

and Mr. Freeman answers with his first words ever:
"They better stay out of my way, cause I'll f*cking blow them out of this dimension! And hey Alyx, looking good...as always!"

Alyx responds:
"mr. Freeman!"

Some guy called Gabe mailed me this....yeah right!....

you'll start out in that dark void you ended up at the end of hl2. Then you'll walk over and open up that wierd door of light g-man exited to find him on a cell phone with his employers.

G-man on phone: "what?? I thought you said... Ahh bloody 'ell."

Gabe to g-man: "yeah you see, half life 3 funding was short by a few figures so just put gordon back in the citadel. Don't ask me I ain't a writer just have him kill some people or somthing."

G-man gets off phone and turns to Gordon: "Mr. freeman, you've been quite busy havn't you? Well evil never takes breaks and neither shall you mr. freeman. I do apologize however for... WHAT'S THAT!"

Gordon turns around to look at what g-man is pointing at. g-man hits gordon with suitcase while he's distracted and knocks him out. G-man drags gordon back into the citadel then goes to out for a smoke in the civil protection break room in the citadel.

Maybe the screen will slowly go from the title and black, to looking up into the face Alyx. But shes screaming something, and you can't here anything. Are you deaf? Then you hear words that say- "It seems, Mr. Freeman, that if you were to leave now, all that...we have worked for will be for naught. So come back, Mr. Freeman, and finish your job." Then BAM! you hear alyx, get up, and start kicking ass.

Marc Laidlaw will find a way.

Hopefully with Ninja's involved. Can't go wrong with Ninja's.

I'm pretty sure that Marc Laidlaw had a plan ready even before HL2 hit the market, if they wouldn't have had a great plan they wouldn't have gone to work this fast....

and Sparta:
Ninjas always works! So OBVIOUSLY Marc has implanted them in the story!!

Sparta-.....Pirates. Viking Pirates. You cannot be that.

Makes sense. Or Kleiner some how rips you free of the G-Man.

IMO, Gman was probably just messing with Gordon, as smug, superpowerful manipulators are want to do. Leaving Gordon in stasis with Alyx about to be hit with a reactor explosion, not to mention who knows what else on the streets below, shows how much the Gman pulls the strings. It makes it readily apparent that when Gordon gets to go help save Alyx and the rest of City 17, it'll be from the Gman's good graces.

I think he just put you an Alyx in there to survive the explosion. Combine Overlords await?

Yeah I just think you were placed in the "time freeze" just the survive the explotion. Maybe you will "wake up" in Breen's office of even a few floors down. Who knows! :p

Here's my theory:

The man with the briefcase who appeared at the end of Half-Life 2 was not the G-Man, but a figmant of Gordon's imagination. The explosion probably knocked Gordon out, causing him to revert back to the earliest memory he could think of...the G-Man on the train. The scene at the end of Half-Life 2 was made up (was not real).

If this is the case then in Aftermath, the game will start with flashes of events from Half-Life 2 (and maybe even forshadowing events in the future???) before Alyx wakes Gordon up on the roof of the Citadel. Since every game and expansion in the Half-Life universe begins with a disjointed state of affairs (from either passing out or from teleporting place to place), this would fit in that mold.

Then at the end of the game, the real G-Man (not Gordon's imagination) would appear. He explains that Gordon has suffered damage to his mind in the explosion at the Citadel, and the best medicine would be for him to rest. Into stasis he goes until Half-Life 3.

Gman says "I'm sure it will make sense to you in the course of....well, I'm really not at liberty to say..."

I'm thinking, during your time on Earth.

Now that is

I agree with Canadian that it seems quite logical and I like it, although I do beleive that the G-man had to play some role at the end of HL2. It just wouldnt seem the same I guess. I dont know.. but great beginning though

or maybe it's not gordon at all.

"the game will follow the adventures of Gordon Freeman"

follow his adventures, so following afterwards, it dosn't have to be him...
Think people...
(i don't want Freeman back for an Expansion)

Already been confirmed...you play as GORDON

I think the explosion had a strange impact on Gordon and after GMan leaves, he wakes up somewhere in the Citadel - due to the explosion something went wrong with taking Gordon out of the Citadel and putting in a safe place to sleep :p

Don't really know how to put it in English words, but you get the idea ;)

of course gordon is the subject! who else have it been.. Dr . kleiner?

Nevar, gordon will start on a train or subway like he always does.
