The true meaning of "combine"...

This thread is about the true meaning of "combine" in HL2. I've heard quite a few things as to what it could mean and i want to try to resolve that in this thread. When the first few vids of the game came out i saw the combine walls tearing down the city slowly. When i saw this the first thing that came to my mind was a literal combine like the farming equipment used to tear down crops and harvest them. I figured valve got the idea from that, but then i hear alot of people now saying that"combine" means that they are actually a combination of alien and human. Combination deriving the name combine. So people tell me what you think i personally think its like the literal combine equpiment, but then i get into alot of speculations so i'd love to know what the majority of you think.

My theory on combine is they are humans with a symbiotic alien "controlling" them or a hybrid of human/xen.........might explain their "alien" behaivour and also why they are called "combine"......a combination.

they are named after the farm implement because it brings of thoughts of humans being harvested like wheat cause that is what a frikin combine does. Its jsut a badass sounding name for what the combine are doing to the people and has nothing to do with anything being "combined" with anything else. I am 99% sure on this.

Combine is just another word play like many of the other names in the Half-Life games. It has more than one meaning, that's the beauty of it. Just like Half-Life, Opposing Force, and Blue Shift all meant more than one thing.

Almost every name in Half-Life has a hidden meaning. (Including Gordon "Free"man.)

The combine actually mean several things, all similar if not on point with you peoples hunchs.

The theory of a combine harvestor comes in, sort of metaphorically, as the fortressess you see slowly swallow the city, and what lies beneath, the planets resources.

There are also humanoids, partly man and partly xen. They were created when xen took over the planet, during gordons nap. Genetical hybrids.

There also know to "combine" forces and team against you....

Only problem with that thought is that it's a bit too simple. We've been spouting that idea from when we first heard of the combine, i doubt the true source of their name comes directly from that.

Yes ofcourse it looks highly likely, after all they dont come across as full humans and they do appear to have a harvester, but still i just dont like the fact that it's so simple...

But then again.., why does it need to be complex? ****itigiveup

Guys if you watch the vids you can tell by the sounds they make when they are shot or are just fighting you. I also know from when I saw my friend play the old leak, so I will put spoiler tags around this even though its obvois from videos.Please do not read the spoiler and then say your an ass for posting that lol, just dont read it. Lol Maybe i should just take it out.

They are 100% alien, you can tell from the sound they make, and in the leak when you got closer to em you can really easily tell
