The magical video

This might be a repost.... But its a video of a guy beating Half Life (1) in 45 min! He bunnyhops his way thru the entire game!

Its 161meg but just let it dl in the background and come back when iits done

Ok, I'll watch it, i've never seen it before. :)

dling in progress.

It was going real fast there for a moment.

It's been posted before, but a while ago.

I saw this video before... he uses some pretty cool tricks to skip around big chunks of the game...

I just saw this yesterday and was very impressed and amused by it...

Funny Movie.

But these Quake1&2 runs impressed me more :]

or SMB3 hehe

i saw one of a guy beating super mario 3 in like 10 minutes

I just got done watching it. He so had it ALL planed out and his gay bunny hop and sky walking. Not a real way to beat a game.

but fast

*sniff*...check out my runs. =)

I fully plan on doing a similar type of thing for Half Life 2.

That video was fake!? So he didn't really do that? Or what, i'm confused. :(
Well the guy played it on an emulator and kept quick saving after he did something right and then loaded the last save when he made a mistake. Apparently it took over 2 years to make, and something like 5000 saves.

wow only a big loser would do that

The guy slowed down the emulator so that game would run slowly and he could plan his next movie.

but only for some parts i think (probably the cannon ball bouncing)

There are two SMB3 vids - one through the entire game that was perfect, that was faked (and very entertaining). The one on the SDA is legit. The SDA doesn't accept anything that's emulated.

the smb3 vid where he beats the game in like 10 min is faked. i dunno about all the emulator stuff, could be true for all i know, but i know a part of the game well enough to know that its faked regardless of emulation.

after he gets the 2 warp flutes or whatever they are called, he goes into the warp zone and goes to the last world. the layout of the warpzone is like this (i think):

2------3------4

5------6------7

------8

each bar being the walkways in the teleport zone, and each number being a different world. this may not be entirely accurate, but essentially taht is what it is. when the teleport is used in the real game, it brings you to the next walkway down. so the initial flute (in real game) brings you to the first walkway, where you can advance to the either the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th world right away. once he is on that first walkway in the video, he uses his 2nd flute and it takes him straight to the last world walkway (world 8, last one at the bottom) this is IMPOSSIBLE, because the 2nd flute in the real game would have taken him to the 2nd walkway, and then he would only be able to advance to the 5th, 6th, or 7th world. therefore, he was on an emulator and just did a little video editing to make it look like he teleported all the way to the 8th world. haha hope you can all understand what i just said

Link? I only saw the emulator one.

That's not true, what he did really happens. Using a flute twice (once to get there, and once more while at the pipes) skips to the end of the game.

Try playing before you look foolish ;)

noo it doesnt go to the end of the game, i know that for a fact. the 2nd flute will take you to the next walkway down FOR SURE. that part of the video was video edited.

lol i dont wanna argue about smb3 though, so u think what u wanna think but i know im right about this

The HL one?

While watching it, some things look a little shady, but maybe I just want to think that because it is so well done.

I just dug up my old NES and did it myself. Use the flute to get to the level choosing map. Then when u are on that level use the second flute and BAM! You are on the last row able to pick the 8'th world.

Wow, what a coincidence. Just before I logged onto half-life2.net I was on ebaums world. They had that supermariobros 11 mintues thing. Amazing. Then I found out it was faked... Then I randomly (not knowing anything about halflife speed runs) typed into google "half-life speed run" or something like that. I got the 600 meg version, boy was I impressed. But then I found out it was faked, too.

(only kidding, the halflife speed run was not faked) But people, I seriously would have used spoiler tags on that post about how the mario video was faked. It let some people down, It sucked when I found out it was faked. It would have been so cool if that was really a guy playing. Oh well. Have you seen this?

I thought that too. It looked like bits of the video were cut out and loads of saves/loads used

Yeah... It actually did look shady on some parts, I remember thinking on some of the fades, man.. that doesn't look right... too choppy...

maybe it was faked too :(

Well in any case, if it wasn't faked, the HL video is freakin' astounding!!

Valve should send that guy a free copy of Half-Life 2. I know I would. Godamn that was amazing... I watched the entire 45 minute video without looking away.

Well worth the download...

Oh and I have also seen the Mario 11 minute video. Even if it is faked, it sure is damn entertaining. The cannonball part is just hilarious. I think I'm going to go re-download that right now... :smoking:

Sorry. The guy who did the video put a big apology on his site for people who thought it was real and found out it wasnt btw

Seemed a bit fake to me
-in the part with the surgical unit, (the spinning bloody thing before the room with the 3 scientists) he opened the locked door and got out a scientist.
-also didn’t the gauss jump only work in multiplayer? Perhaps he was playing a slightly modified version with lower gravity for example?

Regardless it was very entertaining

Yeah, I definitely questioned a couple things I saw in that video.

Err, when you use the flute in the warpzone, you do warp to the end of the game.

The HL speed run was indeed used with a large amount of quick saves. The perfect runs are put together to make the footage. But still, it's not an easy feat to do some of the stuff he does.
