Okay now, I really want to see the 7 hour war sometime, so what I'm asking from you guys is community opinion. I'll e-mail Laidlaw or Gabe (depending on the results = Game - Gabe / Anime - Laidlaw) for an answer and a link to this thread.

So here are the choices. How about a nice uberviolent and superealistic, well-drawn 30 min anime feature (with some of tank vs Strider combat, some great Strider distortion effects... zomg).

Or, alternatively, an additional expansion following the life of a soldier. You in the middle of it, c'mon ....

so vote people, I really need a vote on this one.

Anime? Because I don't got no money for any future video games. Not even aftermath.

As el Chi reminded me, a real-time game of the event would be the way to go! You could even include the Portal Storms!

You've got post-disaster moments- ala the first HL- as you walk through the city doing whatever you need to do. Next thing you know, well, the dropped slideshow presentation is re-enacted around you- Xenians teleporting into supermarkets and terrifying people, the odd Garg blundering through walls or something- and then the Combine appears, prompting you to spend the rest of the chapter running for your life until you can team up with a combat team (which will inevitably win the battle but lose the war, and become one of the first Resistance cells...)

But, if done properly, some kind of film/animation would really suit the HL world. Just don't get Uwe Boll involved.

I like games, I despise anime.
Game ftw! :D
QFE. I will not comment on anime further and my immense dislike for it.

I would preferably have both, but seeing as you have to be evil and make me choose, I'll go for the game.

I dont like anime eighter and I love fps games, so its a nobrainer for me.

GAME!!!!!!!!!

Both damnit!

QFT!!! Normally I would say Anime, but obviously a game would be much more fitting considering bright and elaborated animation is in direct contrast to the bleak, realistic, gritty world in which Freeman fights.

But I still say both.

Well they could make the anime bleak, realistic and gritty. :p

BOTH GOD DAMNIT!

I would really, really love to see a Half-Life anime (for some reason) but if there was a 7-hour war game that really hit it's full potential it would be brilliant. You play an army dude on leave in the country. Starts off as a weird horror game. The first half an hour, you go about your normal business until strange things start happening. Soon it turns into a post-apocalyptic survival game as your entire area is evacuated and sealed off. People squabble over food and supplies. Looters stalk dead cities. You survive how you can. Kind of like Stalker.

Soon, you're out of the area and fighting back with the biohazard-suited army containment crews. But the portal storms gain intensity and frequency as time goes on; this is becoming a war! A war of epic proportions! Or so you think, but you'll soon find you don't know the meaning of epic!

Winning. When suddenly out of the sky come Combine forces and a war for Earth's survival begins. Except it only lasts seven hours.

I think that if you email them, their answers will both be, "Okay, go make a mod/machinima!"

Game
Thats why i prefer games over movies-you can interact with the characters instead of watching the characters do the same thing

am i the only one who thinks the 7 hour war, spanning across continents and millions of men is a little too much for a game where you would be forced to follow a single individuals life. Not only that but the game is barely technically feasible.

ANIME FTW

well...think of it this way...Gordon Freeman was the only one who did something about the experiment going wrong...that is, of all the BM employees who worked/lived there...now maybe the comparasion isn't quite the same but if theres one man trying to save the world from a science experiment gone wrong, then why not one man trying to fight the 7-hour war? :p

I think I see what you mean, but there have also been plenty of WWII movies wich, as I recall, was a BIG war, maybe not as big as I would imagine the 7 hour war to be (nor having the same kinds of flashy laser-style weaponry), but still involving MILLIONS of people. You could have televisions standing out and about showing the story, along with NPC's that also tell you what to do like Alyx did, and stuff hanging on walls like in HL2. :)

Oh, what if as the ressistance/UN army fights the combine invasion, they leave spraypaint trails for anybody who follows?

Then you, as a lonely ressistance fighter, follow these trails of paint through the map. Like maybe one might say "SupplIeS in LOcKEr A203. Combination is 33 44 12. Oh god, I HoPE the combinE can't Rea...." with a trailing D.

You move into the next room to find a soldier in a blue helmet, desperately reaching for locker A203, pelted in the back with bullets. You restock from locker A203, then hear trailing gunfire ahead of you.

You rush ahead allong a trail of bloody boot prints (some facing backwards) to find a squad of UN soldiers pinned down by combine. One yells over to you "Hey you, grab a gun and see if you can get behind them! Our radio frequency is 11. Tap in and i'll tell you what to do."

You run up to a dead UN soldier, pick up his rifle (perhaps an OICW or a decked out CAR 15) and follow the orders of the soldier through your radio.

EDIT: Character idea thingy :E

What if, instead of some sort of hero, or some sort of soldier, you are just some guy who grabbed a gun and joined a self forming ressistance in the midst of crisiss (like how people formed gangs in the midst of Katrina). You eventually get seperated from your neighborhood, and end up forced to trail UN soldiers, in hopes of regrouping with the army. The soldiers leave trails of spraypainted messages to anybody who is left allive in the attack, and you desperately try to catch up with a squad, or at least grab some supplies of their corps'.

I voted Anime over game, as I hate most games these days, but I voted for Anime on the condition that it is hand-drawn with painted backgrounds, like Akira, or even a Miyazaki masterpiece - I don't like CGI replacing hand-drawn animation either.

Hmm, i voted Game, but i'd much prefer a movie based upon realism rather then Anime, purely for the fact that i prefer that style.

Make a real 7 hour war movie, real I'm telling you! Not anime!

I would like an Anime Half-life Movie or episode.. in my opinon that would rock..
