It's a great way of discouraging spam, no matter how much you post your rank won't change, and it encourages people to stay a part of the forums.

Nice poll though, very handy in getting an overview of the (now hefty) official thread.

I vote for weapons, as it's something new and refreshing from the now tedious monsters, as well as bieng a list that you can't argue about (it's pretty obvious that the rocket launcher is better than the pistol). I have just one complaint... crowbar should be at the top. Only a true gamer would want to face the Ninilath with only his steel spirit, iron will and his trusty, gleaming crowbar.

As for the other ideas... most of them are just silly. If you're going to have Sprafa's random forum jokes, you should have included my picture Idea! ...not that it would be accepted or implemented... or that anyone will care... meh, I'm going to shrink into this corner now ;(

This is the way I understand it:

Official (approved by a proper authority) is a relative term, depending on the subject at hand. I can't give your official opinion on something unless you authorize it. You can't do the same about my official opinion on something. HalfLife2.net can't make an official statement on behalf of joule. Unless it requires someone else's authorization you can call it official. In this case, technically, since the original post doesn't actually say the results of this poll will be used to determine the new user title system of this forum or that it is coming from anyone other than himself there isn't really anything that needs to be authorized. He doesn't say what the results will be used for or in whose name the offical poll was made. He could be using this poll to determine his official stance on this subject... in which case, it would be his "Official New User Title Thread/Poll" because he, obviously, has his own authorization. Now, if he called it "The Official HalfLife2.net New User Title Thread/Poll" that would be a completely different story... because it would be implying that he has the authorization of the staff of HalfLife2.net. Basically, he was either too vague or too arrogant.

It will take a while to set up... But I think will be the best.

Have a new rank as many times as possible. Every 25 posts maybe? That leaves us with a ton of levels. Choose a random word for each (When setting it up, not the user choosing it). I think it would be neat People would never get bored! Might encourage spam though... ("OMG MUST SEE WHAT THE NEXT RANKING IS!!!")
