The War on Easter begins

Im not really sure about this.

Now, if a business or whatever wants easter stuff in its office, then hell yeah, go for it. But this was a government office. I certainly believe that religion and the state should be totally seperate, but should this should take the form of having a ban on all religious symbols in government offices? I think it would be better for the christian staff to be able to celebrate Easter as they see fit, so long as they have the good manners to let the Muslims celebrate Eid, the Hindus Diwali ect etc

But this was a government office.

So what? You think that a government employee putting an easter bunny in his office window is basically like Nakworf, an alien from the planet Pfsshgog, throwing up a mind control tower in his office window?

If that made sense, please tell me. For now, here's an alternate answer:

Easter Bunnys are not propaganda towers! The power of rabbits DID NOT and WILL NOT compel you!

no that didnt make sense :)

the point is that as a representative of the government he/she should conduct themselves accordingly ..had the person put a statue of buddha and burned incense for the better part of the day would your assessment still be the same? what if it was a lighted alter to vishnu ..or how about a model of a Raelian ufo that spins and says off-key messages from the Leader himself? ...where do you draw the line?

To be honest, yes. My mother works at a legal firm, and everyone pretty much wears their culture on they're shoulders. She has a friend there who is Muslim, and she wears her headscarf coverings (a Hajib or something of that spelling), and carries a Quran in her pocket.

This does not discount the lady they have their, who I believe is from South Korea. Her office is decorated with hundreds of things, ranging from Japanese Water Demon statuettes, to various other Pagan like things.

Everyone else, just does'nt care, or thinks thats interesting. I particularly, think thats also interesting.

Where should we draw the line?

I'm not sure, CptStern. I'm not sure.

yes but that's their perogative ..that's what they're comfortable with and it's a private firm am I right? ..it doesnt mean that holds true for every place of business especially when it comes to government offices ..at least in canada they have specific guidlines ..like most businesses that deal with the public

Ah ... okay. Thats nice. So CptStern, what kind of laws do they have in Canada? Just curious, btw.

I just, have no idea how Canada's run. To be honest, I don't know too much about it. All's I know, is that they're deploying more troops to Afghanistan, and, a while back, their Political world did something like a backflip through a cheerio.

I noticed. You settled that Avalanche player by using Brutal Bertruzzi. (Or, Crocodile Tear Bertruzzi Dundee)

Thats interesting. What do you like better? Hockey Fights or ... masterbation?

ok that's a little too personal a question ...but suffice to say we never mix the two

dare I ask what that means?

Sure. It meant that ... or at least I think, your Government did something screwey. Its political system had this wierd change over or something.

I dunno, but I heard of it somewhere.

Why is that a shame?

I'm not religious, I solely celebrate the holiday to see my family and exchange gifts. Someone changed Christmas into a religious-free holiday. People still celebrate it the traditional religious way, but I like to seperate the two as completely different.

It's a shame because christmas has lost its meaning. It should be called, buy-presents-for-your-sooking-child-day, not christmas. Christmas, if im not mistaken, is about the birth of one of the most prominent religious figures in history. What this day has become is an insult to the name of jesus, and everything that christians stand for.

Uhh... whatever, dude.

Christmas as a lot of people celebrate it now probably evolved from the Christian form of Christmas. Familes were supposed to get together for this religious event, somebody may have thought that getting each other gifts was, you know, a nice thing to do. (Blasphamers, I know!) Eventually the children of Christian families would grow up with different religious beliefs, or none, but still have the tradition of getting together and giving gifts. They didn't feel as if they needed to rename the holiday, because... oh wait, there is no reason to.

It seems that Christmas has its meaning in the eye of its beholder. Christians still celebrate Jesus' birthday. Non-christians still get together and have a nice time with their families. How does this "ruin" the "meaning" of Christmas? Something nice and seperate sprouted out of something else that was nice.

I'm so sorry that you're offended by such a minor thing?

This is coming from a person who dosn't believe in god:

WHO THE HELL CARES? IF YOU ARN'T RELIGIOUS THEN READ THE HAPPY EASTER AND WALK THE **** AWAY.

If saying happy easter offends somebody they should be shot, because not being religious and being anti-religious are 2 very seperate things. Now if you want to destroy religion well then I think you should be shot, and if you survive the first bullet you should be shot again.

Ow! Your wishing of a happy Easter has warped my fragile little ears!

Hey, semi-topic question: Is it possible to *offend* agnostic/aetheist with religious material, or (as I beleive) does it just make them shake their heads more.

If people are some darned commited to their faith, then why should they get so upset when others "question it" or showcase their own. I think the ones that get the most offended when you question them are the ones that are very uncertain about their own beleives, and so they get angry to convince THEMSELVES that they beleive.

Surely that depends entirely on how you celebrate it?

I'll be off sleeping in tents and stuff during easter.

Scouts ftw!
