The Watchmen movie still hidden in 300 trailer?

OMFG it's Rorschach. Here he is for those who haven't seen him:

Holy shit awesome.

I still don't want Snyder directing it though.
Agreed. I hope there aren't many 3D effects.

What the christ?!? ZOOOOOOOOOMJ
Firefox can unzoom images with 1 click.

SPLOOOOGE!!

As much as I want to take sides with the old codger, Moore, I still would like to see this and hope it gets done right.

What do you mean hidden in the trailer?

Was that a single random frame in there or something?

If so, awesome.

That is made of gold and win, and possibly even Golden Win.

Never heard of this character/story before. Whats it about?

It's about complete awesome.

I advise you go out there and you buy the graphic novel set because while Wiki will tell you what it's all about, it'll also spoilt it. As will everyone else. Just trust me when I say it is made of gold and win.

It's the only comic book to be included on Time's 100 greatest novels of the last century. That should be enough incentive to pick it up.

[POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD (?) ]

Man, now this is crazy nostalgia. I remember when I was like 12 and I'd ask my dad to bring back graphic novels/comics from our loval libary for me to read like the Alien ones (I still to this day hope to find the Starship Troopers one) and I can now distinctly remember a book with that smiley faced soaked with a splash of blood, the next few pages a pan out of that big bloke that killed himself. I really don't remember the book that much at all, save this guy here, but shit, I had no idea a comic I read so long ago, so aimlessly, was this well-recognised, highly acclaimed comic.

I'm going to have to pick up again sometime.

you wont like it ...I've seen your tastes in pop culture; you wont like it

lol that made me laugh

this comic interest me but I dont know how to get it,and dont want to read the thing in wikipedia

To be honest, Im cautiously optimistic about this. Now it'll be impossible to convert a lot of the deeper themes and meaning of the book into film, as they are referencing, and only make sense in the context of, a comic book (the black freighter etc). But i'm sure with good writers, familiar with the source material, they could make it into more of an analysis of superheroes on film, perhaps?

Also, I have faith in Synder or Zynder or whatever his name is. He successfully fought to get the studio let him set it in the 80s, as in the comic, and if 300 is a big enough success, hopefully he'll have a little more leverage in getting things done.

The Still from the 300 trailer is from a costume test, as nobody has been cast yet. So any ideas for casting?

I think (money no object of course):

George Clooney as The Comedian:

Or Mel Gibson or (comedy option) Tom Selleck!

Possibly spoilerific:

Apparently Jude Law has been wanting to play Ozymandias or Rorschach for years - hes a huge Watchmen fan (and even has a Rorschach tatoo). But I think Tim Roth looks more the part:

I cant find a picture of rorsach without the mask right now, will have a look later.

Any other ideas? Paul Giammatti as Nite Owl II? Jennifer Connely as Silk Spectre II?

Tim Roth or Daniel Craig are perfect as Rorschach. Just gotta die their hair red. Tom Cruise or Jude Law as Ozymandias would be good. Jon would likely have to be CGI or else it would just end up looking corny with a blue painted man. I don't know, Mystique was alright in the X-Men movies, maybe it could work. Sigourney Weaver for Silk Spectre I, Jennifer Connely for Silk Spectre II, John Cusack for Nite Owl II, William H. Macy for Nite Owl I, Tom Selleck could pull off a good Comedian, but he's not buff enough and I don't know if he'd really hit the weights anymore. George Clooney would not only be a good choice, but also an ironic one considering Clooney's politics. Considering Gibson's politics, I doubt he'd do Comedian since he's essentially a nihilist and atheist.

tom cruise should have nothing to do with watchmen, this movie should be awesome. And awesome leaves no room for scientology posterboys.

regardless, Rorschach FTMFW. The baddest assest ginger in the world

I don't know anything about this series, but according to wikipedia Judelaw has expressed that he would like to play Ozymandias.

I don't see what his religion has to do with anything. He was great in Magnolia, and would probably be good as Ozymandias too.

He's also expressed interest in doing Ozymandias, suggesting he's probably familiar with the material as much as Law is. But, its a touch decision on who to choose. They're both great actors (besides Cruise's recent...actions) and would both make great Veidt's.

Unfortunately, it's obvious just reading what Snyder says about it he doesn't understand the material at all. He keeps talking about "All this cool satire" where Watchmen really isn't a satire...at all. There's satirical elements, but its far more than just a satire. And of course, he's talking about "making it really cool and its just so cool, this is cool, that is cool, COOL.."

I'm worried.

Yea, but the guy has been around 20+ years and has only had memorable roles in maybe 2 movies ( the first being Born on the fourth of July and Magnolia)

My history teacher came in as Maverick for Halloween. He's got the Mission Impossible trilogy, Rain Man, Interview with a Vampire, Minority Report, Collateral, Last Samurai, Vanilla Sky, Eyes Wide Shut.

The man's a capable actor, even if he weren't "memorable." You could say the same about Jude Law or Tim Roth, yet they're perfect choices for their roles.

I'm always afraid of taking PR speak at face value. He's got to spend his day getting actors, producers, and the public interested and invested in this film, so he's gotta pull out the bullet points so people get what he's talking about.

I agree. At the risk of sounding a bit arrogant, I dont think most people would 'get' Watchmen. If he wants people to go an see it hes going to describe it in a way that will appeal to the average movie goer, not the hardcore comics fan.

300 just grossed 70 million dollars in it's 1st weekend, so I'm sure Watchmen will be made no matter what he says.

2.5 - 3 hours long
Set in 1985
Will be R rated
Part for Gerard Butler, no Tom Cruise
Sounds decent enough. You can't expect much more than 2.5 hours unless it's something more widely know/epic like LOTR.

It's got the extremist equivilent of the Question in it. I'm in.
