So now that we're sliding into 2005, what do you think have been the highs and the lows, the things that have defined this year for you, be it personal or grander than that?
Negatives:
More Islamophobia. Sadly this has been a prevalent theme for the past 2-and-a-bit years, but this year didn't see it dissipating.
More of a move towards the Nanny State? Perhaps more of a contentious issue, this one. Still, there is the fear in my mind of more moves towards certain restrictions being imposed upon us.
The culture of fear. Again, a prevalent them since 9/11, but it's showing no signs of dissipating.
The on-going problems in Iraq. We're there now, and so we must stay until there is more stability. However it is sad to see the terrible things carried out by both the dissidents and ourselves.
Bush winning the election.
The recent earthquake
Class war in Britain. The whole "chav" buzzword phenomenon has pissed me off no end. It just seems to have boiled down, more and more, to class elitism and a stark re-establishment of the "bloody peasants" nonsense.
Pete Doherty Selfish skag-head prick.
The Beckhams and Rebecca Loos They're attention whores and she's just a whore in general. It's no-one else's business.
Moving into my own house. They say the best way to fall out with your friends is to live with them. There's more than a bit of truth there.
Aliens Vs. Predator <Weeps>
Positives
My own radio show It may just be student radio, but it's bloody fun
Holiday in India It was a great experience and gave me two ideas for novels - what more can one ask for!?
David Blunkett's resignation The man was a complete moron. Whether Charles Clarke will be any different at all remains to be seen, but it's a start.
A year people started to care about politics Bush may have won but at least people showed more and more care. People showed an interest and went out to get their voices heard. Whether I agree with those voices or not is far from the point.
24 I will either be Jack Bauer or I'll marry Elisha Cuthbert. Preferably the latter
Half-Life 2 Well I had to put it in, really.
The Motorcycle Diaries; Shaun of the Dead; Hero; seeing Breakfast at Tiffany's for the first time Audrey Hepburn is possibly the most beautiful woman ever.
The Music's second album
Gigs a-plenty It's been a very good year for live music. The Cooper Temple Clause (twice), the Music (twice), The Pixies, The VonBondies (twice) and Reading festival
Reading A Clockwork Orange for the first time
Partying My 19th b'day was an amazing night out, as were many nights out and parties this year. Huzzah.
Most of the people I know doing well in their exams
Girlies They're great, aren't they? It's been an interesting year.
Ok, sod this I've rambled on far too long. There are more obviously, but I can't be bothered.
Here's hoping our new years are good ones.
