It seems to me that the Combine, in their consumption of races in the past, have assimilated the alien species they have come across, and incorporated their physiology into the Combine technological/biological war machine.

Most of you already know this, so know that I am just asking how you all think we might see human physiology, or even the physiology of the different natural animals of the Earth incorporated into the Combine.

Of course, we have already seen the results the Combine has accomplished through the altering of the human body, with the Overwatch. Twisted nightmares of once they what were.

A lesser known example would be the Flying Mosquito Manatee. You know the one I'm talking about. It was sent against us in Half Life 2 after we witnessed the Combine stealing our helicopter design. The flying mosquito manatee is, if you closely notice, a combination of the human helicopter design with whatever monstrosity makes up the rest of the biological aspect of the flying mosquito manatee. Another interesting tidbit is that the rotor wings are made of insectlike wings. The ocular sensors on the sides are essentially segmented eyes!

How has the rest of the Earth's denizens been incorporated? I do not believe we have seen the limits of how much the Combine has to offer. What else can they make out of us?

And that is just Earth.

I do not know how much territory the Combine Empire has taken control of, but they seem to have a vast assortment of alien hodgepodge to throw at us.

If they were to access Xen, for example. I have not seen any Combine synths that take advantage of any of the aspects of the Vortigaunts. Or the Controllers. Or the Shock Troops, with their hive hands.

How many different species do the Combine have that they can mix and match? As many as can be imaginable, I would imagine.

Personally, I want to see them make tigers with wheels and lazers.

I want sharks with fricken laser beams attached to their fricken heads! :)

To be frank, the only thing that surprised me in HL2 was that the Combine Elites didn't have a higher rank full of creepily potent prototypes. I bet you can make some pretty nasty special forces/commandos by combining more advanced technology with humans...

And it's not exactly drawing from Earth's technology, but I'd like to see something greater than a Strider. I dunno, a Quad or something. Huge bastard of a walking tank.

Yeah, I want to see snarks too. Gotta love those critters...

Hehe, first of all, gunship. Flying mosquito manatee is definately an accurate description, but it's called a gunship. And they were created long before seeing our helicoptors...the rotor's just a design that's common across worlds, it seems.

Now humans, there's a lot left for the combine to do to us. They weren't included in the game, but the original elites were human synths. Imagine a synth body, thin waist and limbs that could not possibly hold a human being of any size within, like a suit, but rather was the replacement body. The upper torso of the synth body had an orange bubble-dome casing where you could see the remaining human parts within: the head. It looks like the left arm might've also remained, along with part of the chest, but everything else was scrapped.

There was also another synth elite design that was more like a suit. It was to be a "bipedal strider grafted to human proportions." Eventually that design was also dropped, which is a pity because both of the original elites look awesome and really show what the Combine can do with humanity as weapons.

As for other terrestrial animals, the Combine try to make synths that fill a particular niche: gunships for air assault, striders for heavy ground attack, hunters for search and destroy. They're going to be looking for species that have particular capabilities or adaptions that they can use in a war situation. Things I think they'd look into are faster flying types for quick strikes rather than assault, faster land creatures, sea animals. I could see them looking at elephants or rhinos as well.

As for making things out of the Xenians, they can't get to the controllers or grunts. As for vortigaunts, they do have a use for them. You never see it, but they stick vortigaunts in power generators called vorti-cells and suck the energy out of them. They're more useful as energy than synths.

And apparentely, they are also very well suited for janitorial duty.

Prowlers,

Though the qucikness they would have probably won't be as cool now when we have fast zombies, but they could be some type of enemy who's hunching down , swinging through tress , jumping from place to place and using alot of the physics against the player.

When i think about it again , maybe they can make Prowlers as the result of a combine trooper getting crabbed by a fast headcrab.

There was a "zombie assassin", which was a prowler that had 'crabed.

I consider the Overwatch troops a step towards human synths.

The combine don't make things into synths. The synths were a series of species in and of themselves that the combine incorporated into their forces and modified the crap out of. They don't just make synths out of everything. What they are doing with humans presently in the story is an example of how they work, incorporate and modify. Not incorporate and synthify.

The word synth is clearly meant as synthetic (or synthesized, as in artificially created) - the synth isn't a race, it's the result of the combine's meddling. So essentially, the humans are being synthified.

There's no clearer origin of the word than that. It's not just a cool word for a race, for fun. All then names in halflife games are very literal like that.

The progression of these Episodes, including cut locations such as the Arctic Base and Antlion Tunnels leads me to believe that we could see the return of some cut enemies. And in my opinion that's most likely to be the more Synthed-up humans. Just as long as we don't see Worm-Breen I'll be fine. D:

I meant 'How about MECHA-BREEN?'

EDIT: In a different kind of way. :)

Well reading about the character design in making the synths, they are described as

"self-replicating robots that evolve, were created or taken over by the combine and enslaved through their conquests and wars"

maybe humans are on their way to being made into synths but i think that its way farther down the line.

When i grow up, i want to be a combine synth warrior man... with 3 arms!

Well in ep 3 will have the synthesized antlion,a version of the antlion made in another city,I realy want to see what the Combine can do out of antlions, since the Hunter is not the synthesized version of the houndeye.

i would love to see some sort of mech-elephant that does somesort of antlionguard charge

Hard to image any life form on Earth which survived extensive combine abuse and terraforming. Except the seagulls, they still munchy out on leaches from the sea.
