Theories On The Alien Controllers' Fates?

I'm sure you people remember the Alien Controllers way back in HL1 that had control over the Slaves. I wonder what became of them after the Nihilanth died? Ordinarily I would have assumed that they're just irrelevant to the story like most other Xen creatures. However going by the EP1 opening and seeing how the regular Vortigaunts have the power to interlope in the affairs of Government Man himself, surely the more mentally capable branch of the Vortigaunt species is even more powerful? If that's the case, then there's great potential for them to show up in later HL2 episodes.

My personal theory and hope is that after the Nihilanth died, the remaining and disillusioned Controllers who have lost control of their Slaves decided to cast their lot with the Combine. As they seem to be the most developed branch of their species, naturally they were assimilated into the Universial Union in typical Combine fashion. I would imagine they would become minions of the Combine Advisors given both of those creatures have notable mental powers.

Fastfoward 20 years later to the destruction of City 17, and they could possibly be called upon to help deal with the Vortigaunt rebels that would have to be destroyed. They would be the perfect opponents for the former Slaves, as their mental powers likely surpass that of the standard Vortigaunt. And given time, it could be these traitorous Xenians that finally unlock the secret of reliable local teleportation for the armies of the Universial Union, something the old Nihilanth was very capable of. It would be a huge blow to the Earth Resistance should this occur (not to mention to make for kick-ass battles).

Apologies if nobody really cares, but I just happen to be fans of those Alien Controllers back in HL1. It would be a shame for me never to see them again in places other than BM(S).

Im really not too sure where the Alien Controllers are concerned, but were they not under the control/direct control of the Nihilanth? So with the death of the Nihilanth, they would either die, go insane (then die), or bugger off to their own little corner of Xen. I think.

If you'll remember if you choose to deny the G-man's offer in HL 1 he teleports to a room full of Alien Grunts, Controllers, and Mantas flying above. It's safe to assume that the survivors were escaping Xen, possibly because the G-man now controls it or because without Nihilanth it's too dangerous to stay on Xen.

I was actualy thinking this the other day too. I'd say they're all dead, either by the hands of the g-man or the Combine or the Vortigaunts.

I'd agree - which one of three it is is a huge speculation
Was it
a - the Gman's army of Xenians (and others?)
b - the Combine of whom the Gman was then an employee
c - the Vortigaunt, freed from the control over the vort essence of the Nihilanth revolting against their Vort masters
d - the combine
e - non-combine Race X

I doubt G-Man had any business in the Borderworld other than finding Freeman. Even though G-Man is really nothing more than an observer figure, perhaps the Vortigaunts went through with a mass-uprising.

b - the Combine of whom the Gman was then an employee
If the Universial Union ever came to the Borderworld, they would rediscover that race with local teleportation abilities that eluded them so long ago. No doubt the Union will try to assimilate Xen in this situation, the Controllers with their master gone might very well ally with the Combine to keep their power. Again, G-Man would have had little direct involvement.

c - the Vortigaunt, freed from the control over the vort essence of the Nihilanth revolting against their Vort masters
Very possible. Probably the most likely scenario that requires the smallest burden of proof.

d - the combine
Perhaps this could have happened as explained above, but then again would not the Vortigaunts known if the Combine were active in the Borderworld using their hive mind? Or maybe Alien Slaves have restricted access to the hive-mind? Afterall, the HL1 Vortigaunts were quite primitive compared to their HL2 cousins.

e - non-combine Race X
Doubtful, as Race-X lost a Geneworm along with many troopers at Black Mesa. At best, they could only skirmish with a mentally-revived Vortigaunt race.

I doubt G-Man had any business in the Borderworld other than finding Freeman.
"...the boarder world, Xen, is under our control...for the time being..."

Also, maybe they all died when Nihily did? Or maybe they ran off to another world.

But G-Man could have been referring to the Human Grunts that somehow showed up in the Borderworld. Or perhaps by control, G-Man meant the official invasion by Nihilanth was finally terminated. Of course it'd have to be only for the time being due to those portal storms. Finally, the Controllers don't die when Nihilanth does since at least one was seen when Freeman refuses to accept G-Man's offer (along with a whole bunch of Alien Grunts and some Mantas).

I think the Alien Controllers and Alien Grunts were specially grown versions of the Vortigaunts (hence the grunt factory in HL1). After the Nihilanth was destroyed, I don't think they kept making the modified creatures. The normal Vortigaunts were free to repopulate and all that jazz. They may have risen up against their oppressors and destroyed many of the Controllers and Grunts.

I think there are probably some controllers around somewhere. Probably some left on Xen.
Maybe be some on Earth due to portal storms (though maybe not since they seem to be able to teleport well).

The Controllers where the Vortigaunt's slave masters (hence Controllers), who manufactured them? Hardly the Vorts (say Combine and I'll send you a fecking virus)

It was the Combine alright. Accept it.
Perhaps the Controllers could produce themselves, or endow Vortigaunts with their abilities as they see fit? There's no direct proof that states the Combine created the Controllers.

The guys at Valve are probably sitting back laughing at this site, watching you all bark up the wrong tree.
