There are comparable games to DOOM3 and HL2...

I was actually wondering what times of games you like..

Hitman 2 was terribly average.. very boring.
CoD isn't a game, it's a movie..

Others I agree on :)

Hitman 2 was just... well.. fun. There were two ways of playing it, sneaking and rambo. Rambo was indeed very boring, sneaking was fun though.

Movies don't shoot you in the head if you're not fast enough. :imu:
In games you should be able to be what you want to be, not to be forced into following what the game wants.

It's too scripted to be a proper game. The AI sucks, does the same thing every time, it's samey, sure it may be cinematic, but so what?

Doom3 - run around fun house, can you survive the hell game, it will include the best graphics of its time breaking new ground. I think making mods for this will not come easy the lighting has to be perfect i think amatures will have alot of problems when just trying to make simple maps that reveal so much detail. In other words there is no room for covering up little things they will be very visible to all so this will take the noob modders yrs just to make one good looking map, theres no tucking stuff under the rug and hope ppl dont notice your mistakes.

Actually, maybe you already implied this, but the D3 mapping tools pre-render the lighting so the mappers don't have to do it themselves. Or did you mean that sense the lighting is so good, it would take them along time to create a map because they can't hide what mistakes they made?. Anyway, yes even so, they can still tailor the lighting to their custom designs, its just that the engine automatically does it for them.

You forgot about the Story LINE! Hl2's Story is teh far better then anything else

I'm with everyone who says FarCry is garbage. In fact, I KNOW for a fact that FC is garbage personified because i had "the honor" of playing their MP beta... crap man they should have paid us for playing that. Single player is a joke... the AI... you know guys, just because a developer says their AI is "amazing" doesn't really make it true. I came to FC as a newcomer, i heard some stuff about the 'amazing' engine and how a game was being made using it and how it could rival all the new next gen games coming out this year, well I applied fortheir MP beta and got accepted, then i downloaded the SP demo and played the level through a few times on different difficulties and let me tell you i got more enjoyment from playing a freaking ninja turtles game on an arcade located at the movie theater than from this piece of garbage they call a game. First of all it runs like crap on "average" systems, secondly the game does not even look that good.. it looks like battlefield with more bushes that's all. The game is glitchy the AI is terrible... c'mon highly trained mercenaries can't find a guy wearing a BRIGHT RED HAWAIIAN SHIRT hiding in the bushes throwing rocks constantly, then they go into the bushes only to get stabbed in the face... yeah... incredible AI. What about the times where they would just get stuck trying to run into a mountain (which had no way up at all) or the times where they would just look at the grenades you threw at them and then just stand there until they blew up... amazing. The physics are almost non-existent, doesn't mean it's bad it just means it's another thing it lacks from other good titles coming soon.... but overall the AI is a terrible terrible joke. BF1942 bots are smarter than these guys.

Modding? Please don't make me laugh. Any smart modder will choose a game with a solid c++ core over a stupid LUA based scripting language which is probably more limited than making tracks in Nintendo's "Motorbike" (and that game ruled... better than FC). People making 'mods' using the demo? Sure, anyone can make a farcry mod because the language is so easy it's laughable, that doesn't mean its GOOD. It means modding is more limited and you can't actually make a real Total Conversion that changes gameplay dramatically (and if any game needs mods this is it... the original gameplay is worse than sticking a bowling pin up your rear end).

Modding is overrated for this game, just like all the other aspects they hype about it. The only reason i can see this game becoming as popular as it got is because it's made by an unknown developer and people expect and hope it becomes "the next Half-Life". I look forward to reading the reviews for this game... i really do. Actually i'm more hyped about BF:V than this game... doesn't that say a lot? BF:V is basically battlefield expanded but at least it looks like it will play better than FC doesn't it?

This game has no atmosphere... it has no feeling at all. The player doesn't feel like he's IN the game like in other good shooters, I actually felt like i was watching a gameplay movie when i played the demo... that's how bad it was. The sounds are subpar and the player controls are beyond horrible. They are so unresponsive i feel like i'm playing a console shooter where everything moves and slides and you have no real control over where you're aiming... comparing HL, Quake and even UT2k3 (which i don't really like but it feels better than FC) this game is a huge step back for gaming.

I'm leaving MP out of the discussion because most people haven't been able to play it but having first hand experience i can tell you you are not missing anything at all... just wait for the MP demo due to come out soon and you will see exactly why I say this.

My money is going towards BF:V and maybe UT2k4 this March... I am not even going near a FC box even if i got a free copy.

Mweh, I wouldn't call the singeplayer BAD, it's enjoyable, nothing more, nothing less imho.
The AI isn't anything special from what we've seen in other FPS's, but it's certainly not bad.

Only things I would call BAD are the leveldesign and overall 'feeling' of the game.
Leveldesign is far too lineair and nothing like they promises. Also it doesn't use the fancy island environments, you still walk a pre-determined path, eventhough there are most of the time multiple.

The multiplayer is just horrible indeed, I don't remember having one fun moment really.

Lol, that's purely a matter of taste. From my point of view, Far Cry has an awesome 'feeling'. Best tropical atmosphere I've ever seen in a game. The music also adds a lot of suspense. Level design is also pretty good. Much less linear then Max Payne 2 or CoD.

Yep :)

As from my earlier post, CoD is awful, a step in the wrong direction.. towards interactive movies.

Well, ive played the second demo of far cry, with a new map...and the indoor locations look better then what i've seen from doom III screenshots..DAMN that was beautifull, with directx9 effects and stuff.

The second demo made my anticipation for far cry go from 1 to 10 :p

( still, nothing can beat hl2 offcourse)

I think far cry will be a GREAT, if not a fantastic game to wait with untill hl2.

seriously, to all: play the second far cry demo!!

( btw, imo ut2003 AND ut2004 both suck ass..never played a bad game as those lol, i cant believe people actually like these games. )

Less linear is not always better. At least in CoD and Max Payne 2 the story was interesting. I was not interested for more than the first 10 seconds when playing FarCry in either SP or MP. I played all of the way through CoD and MP2 and they both kept me interested the entire time. So, I think one minute of interest for a demo is not too much to ask...

That's not to say that I don't like tropical-themed games. I just don't like FarCry.

All those who doubt Far Cry's AI, but on 'AI auto-balence'
NOTE: I tried all of the difficulty settings for the FarCry demo... and they all felt exactly the same.

It's not turning auto-balancing on or off that is causing the problems. It is the AI as a whole. On every setting it did the same retarded things:
1) When startled they repeatedly strafe back and forth very quickly (without actually going anywhere).
2) When I kill one of a pair of guys from a medium distance the other one either stands still and goes about his business or calmly walks over to the lifeless body... instead of trying to take cover or find the enemy.
3) When I snipe a guy from as far as I can see (fully zoomed in) he is able to see me and starts shooting at me with a gun that doesn't even have a scope... yet when I hurt a guy from almost point-blank range I can escape without being seen.
4) When I spooked the people on the docks all I had to do to escape them was to duck under it... apparently they could not comprehend how to do that. They just stood still next to the side of the dock and didn't move even after I shot them in the feet.
5) If I dodge enough of their bullets and they run out of ammo they do nothing. They don't try to hit me. They don't try to run away. They just stare at me.
6) I love how if you shoot someone from 10 feet away and hide in a bush they will forget it ever happened in about a minute.
7) I got them to blow themselves up by moving behind that explosive thing (they tried to shoot through it) on the dock by the boat with the gun on it.
... etc.

Maybe I'll make a video of the retards in action.

I don't know why people think FC's AI is all that great. In some places they use cool flanking tactics, but in others they fail the simplest situations.

Hm...I wouldn't say they're geniuses or a new standard or anything, but I don't really see them do many of those things.
I have seen them react when I shoot the other guy, split into teams, and attempt to flank me.
Maybe they're both stupid and smart depending upon the situation, but I never came away thinking they were dumb when I played the demo.
Edit: And not every game has to be non-linear. CoD is amazing for what it is, regardless of linearity. Doing something to perfection is never a step backward, and it was a hell of a lot of fun.

Here's my list of anticipated games:

1. Duke Nukem Forever

That's it.

Sorry, I couldn't resist. :p Anyway, back to the discussion. When I played the FC demo, the NPCs acted fairly intelligently when it came to flanking me. I mean, I'd walk up, shoot one in the foot, then, as I'm watching his buddy try to come and get me, another guy would come sneaking up from the left and pretty much kill me immediately. Just about everything else was... wierd. Like the NPCs ability to shoot me from across the map. And a lot of the other gripes people have had in this topic. Yep, they're good at sneaking up one me and being annoyingly accurate.
