Ok lets think here. A hacker hacked gabes computer and then infected 6 other computers with keylogers/trojans. Why would he grab just the source and not the beta? or just both. You cant say that he wasent able to becasue gabe plays hl2 everynight so hl2 the hole game was on gabes pc as well as with the source. He said so him self.... And lets not forget the 6 other computers that had a trojans on them. They not only had valve infomation only on them like passwords and other private stuff but prolly the game it self too. It would be just stupid to not grab the game and only the source and then e-mail gabe with pic of the source tree. I mean why would someone go though all that just for a source that you cant even play, and that will omost ruin multiplayer with cheats. It just makes no sense. There for there has to be a beta leaked if gabe was really hacked.
 
There is no beta...... Only the source code is floating around, I wish people could read.

Where'd you get that number? Gabe said they were still finding computers that were infected
 
The only so called betas are compiled versions of the code no doubt containing Trojans, and various hacking tools to compromise your computer. Go ahead make the hackers day, download it like a fool.
 
Doubtful right now that there will be any internet access from VALVe software till release of HL2.

becuase its like a game to these people . Its like a prise, they live in a fantasy world. What the use in getting the whole game ? Ok yeah to play it . But their not stupid people they can wait till its released to play it. Also warez they could easily wait till its released to warez it. No its a bit deeper than that.
 
the original post brings up a point. If Gabe could play the game, why wouldn't he nab the models and the sounds and whatelse so he could to.

He's not saying there is a beta, hes saying that there could have been a hacked one if more than the source was nabbed. (right?)
 
Ya I mean gabe said it. I dont know where but he said "I play hl2 everynight at MY pc" So there is no doubt that its on his pc im just woundering why the hacker dident grab it .... if he dident.
 
well it is *possible* that they also stole whatever else was on the computer they hacked. If there was a working copy of HL2 in there, they probably have it too.
 
It's not that simple, the source is only 30 or so MB while the game would probably be around 1GB. This would take around a day to download and would require that Gabe not turn off his computer nor notice any suspecious activity with his net connection.

a day to download? assuming Valve is not running off a 56k modem, and are like any other legitimate business that own ultra wide connections, that would take less than an hour!

or you can download it in little sections over time.
 
Also I doubt the source was rared on gabes computer.. it's actually 130 mb or so uncompressed.
And where do people get 1 gig from? how do you know it's that big?
Well, less than an hour to download is what I say too, but, only time will tell..

Your forgeting that gabe never knew that he had been hacked untill the hacker sent him a pic of the soruce tree.... he had alot of time to grab it in snips.
