Well... those were kind of obvious ideas, I actually like the one where he went to more security work after black mesa, as... that is his niche, and its what he's good at.

You dont construct, have a big incident in your life, and suddenly become a data processing specialist (pay no regard to the complexity of either jobs, they were just examples)

So did I. Yes, if I were particularly mean-spirited I might suggest Barney is gathering intelligence because he hasn't got much to spare. but through myriad team-buiilding sessions with my security guard co-workers I have learned ot get along with them and repsect them as they are due.

Anyway. He probably just stole the armour, or, as I believ has been suggested before, he may have just broken you out of prison by impersonating a combine.
