Namco Bandai takes to the skies on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 next year with Ace Combat Assault Horizon, a rebirth for the franchise featuring helicopters, turret-gunning, and quick-time events.

Fans hungry for a new console version of Ace Combat since the 2007 release of Ace Combat 6 on the Xbox 360 are on course to be sated next year, though it might taste a little different than they're used to.

This teaser trailer for Ace Combat Assault Horizon from Gamespot shows a massive battle taking place over the skies of Miami, indicating a departure from the fictional country combat we've grown accustomed to over the past few titles in the series. During the battle, prompts appear on-screen, urging the player to press the PS3's triangle button, performing a special maneuver and then ejecting from a damaged vehicle.

I am sorry but eliminationt he world whit its nations and exchangin in for the real world killed it for me

now it will be like hawx whit grizzly marines screaming "supressive fire!" or "hoha!" and against the russians

so for me ace combat as I know as died ;(

thanks bandai for ruining namco >:|

*me hugs copies of real ace combat games*

Helicopters? Can we play the turret gunner in a black hawk?

Ace is probably shitting his pants in agony at the idea of quick time events in a f*cking flight combat game.

They were good in the first place?

Well the quick-time events are certainly cheesy, but helicopters and turret gunning sound like good additions. The game needs to provide the full air force experience ... would definitely go a long way towards recapturing my interest.

I think that's pretty much what Michael Bay's dreams look like...

I'd play this. I never played the Ace games till 6 so I don't know why people get their panties all in a bunch when they change the gameplay around and actually evolve the series. Look at Final Fantasy, they've changed so much over the years they cater to just about anyone who likes RPGs. and look at Mario too for the matter. games continue to impress me with how much they expand and change. playing the same old shit gets boring but when you change the game around a bit it becomes fresh and unique

Well put...

The last Ace Combat looked amazing...almost bought a 360 for it...but I DO like the looks of some of this...the graphics looked amazing in the scene with the Blackhawk gunner mowing down the metal shed.

But I dont like high speed 3D movement games with cinematic stuff like the plane hitting the building, or the OpFor pilot in the middle of a massive air battle with hundreds of aircraft involved taking the time to wingtip a single parachuting pilot...

They've already done this with Ace Combat: Joint Assault for the PSP.

They were good in the first place?

Yes they were. Before 6.

I'll still buy this and reserve my opinion for when I play it.
..I just hope the sense of identity as a hero is kept. Being a nameless pilot sucks.

Taking the good part of a game and ****ing it up said:
It's not that we were trying to make a Call of Duty game [laughs]. We tried to take the good parts of the Ace Combat franchise and take it out, and make it reborn so more people can enjoy it.

MW2 storyline said:
The main character is called Bishop, and he's the ace pilot of the fighter jets. And he starts out on a mission in East Africa, and finds out they have a huge nuclear bomb made. He goes off in search of this mysterious bomb and the world is slowly becoming involved in a war situation with this bomb. As the story goes on, it's told not only from Bishop's perspective, but from that of helicopter pilots on the same team and other fighter pilots too, so we can look at the whole storyline with a different vision.

Ace Combat is an FPS said:
For those newcomers the control system is made so that it's more intuitive. It's not necessarily really really easy to control; players don't have to worry about being the best to really control the fighter jet - obviously fighter jets are incredibly complicated to control in real life - but they don't have to worry about that part. Especially for players used to FPS games, they'll be capable of doing this.

I don't want to change perspective I want to be a ****ing jet pilot said:
In this one part of the game, you start out controlling Bishop - the fighter jet - and you go about attacking the enemy base. After you do that, in the middle helicopter allies come to help Bishop. The game then changes perspective, and the next section sees you as a helicopter pilot helping Bishop out from elsewhere. So you get to see the storyline from a different point of view.

It's made so the controls aren't confusing, it's made so the players can enjoy exploring and shooting down enemies on the ground, so it's very intuitive.

I AM SO MAD

Never been a particular fan of Ace Combat, but judging what it was like before this is a huge step backwards.

Sounds pretty poopy for a flight simulator to be explained like this.

Ace Combat was never a flight simulator. StarFox was more of a flight simulator than Ace Combat.

Actually I'd say AC was closer to a flight sim than star fox, but AC was an arcade flight simulator. It was in the middle between action action action and cool dogfights.

This is taking it too close to 'action game'.

ace combat focused more on the fun part while keeping a simulator feel and a sci-fiest setting in a anime style

now it seem be be focused to please the burly marines liking crowd and sure in a mission we will have to save the president of the usa or something like that

this make me apreciate ac3 much more

Heh, by flight simulator I meant a game that revolves around flying aircraft (though that isnt the correct definition).

Well, there's already been a over a dozen games based on the same formula. You eventually run out off steam to the point that it dilutes the gameplay and want to try something new with the series. It's hardly uncommon.

Dude, you don't like helicopters? You don't like quicktime events? Quicktime events are the future of gaming.

Demo's out.

Helicopter level is terrible.
Music is good.
Forced QTE.
Everything I was worried about.

Multiplayer sounds cool, though.

God damnit Darkside.

shitty franchise was always shitty go play Lock On. or the DCS.That's the reall stuff.
It's like comparing a $0.69 Burrito to a $100 Steak

:L

anyway I saw a video of the helicopter mission and didnt looked that bad imo,I think they should do a helicopter and in that way dont screw the ace combat series

Uhm?

Are you trying to compare a simulator to an arcade game?
That's like trying to compare Arma and CS:S.

If I want to play a sim I'll play a sim, but I want to play Ace Combat and that's what this thread is about.

Also, it is impossible to kill the 'tgt lead' guys without the 'Dogfight mode' bullshit. I tried.

Must have hit him at least 120 times.

verdict is in

it is
not a bad game
the demo was very unrepresentative of the final product(the demo was the tutorial instead of actual gameplay and was not fluid at all.)
the plot sucks so far and the characters are not likable(if there are even characters, I'm not sure)

full co op
nicely made multiplayer
DFM is not as bad as it made itself out to be, and is actually a decent addition to the gameplay in the end.

it's not as bad as hawx but it's certainly no ace combat zero.

So, it's essentially Call of Duty on air. Not saying it's bad, but it's certainly a change from previous Ace Combat games.

Played the demo, the only part I didn't like about the game is the helicopter part.

Oh, and if anyone is thinking about getting this game, get the Xbox 360 version. Apparently, the ps3 version is the inferior one.

Seems fine to me, I bought it on PS3.

Not saying the difference is clear like the whole Bayonetta fiasco, but the xbox 360 version has sharper texture while ps3 version has washed out visuals and jaggie shadows.

But then again, you won't even able to tell the difference with whole dogfight going on. Only during the cutscenes.

Cutscenes seem to look terrible as is.
I think even Ace Combat 5 had better cutscenes than this shit.

Wish more of then had gone with the live action Zero had.

so its out? it sucks?

saw a video of the helicopter part and it didnt looked that bad
also didnt liked the new call of dutyfied character "lets go marines hoha!"

also I didnt liked the live action cutscenes of zero though they didnt looked that bad
