For those who don't know, whene a black strip is put diagonaly at the left corner(doesn't matter if uper or lower) of someone's portrait, it means that this persone has passed away.

I don't think that people who made this piece of shit deserve to be called people anymore.
 
That's really inconsiderate -- you sure it's not a fake? If that was really done by a magazine, they sucked horribly at photoshopping a photo.

Anyhow, this is rather disturbing, boycot that.. magazine!

hehehhe dirty russians. but hey what was the guy good for in the pic? was he governmental or what? no im not bias against russians. but i have no sympathy if i dont know who the guy was. ^ the soldiers in the pics for all i know could be saluting a government guy like PUTIN(I hate) or Stalin(I hate).....

I think it's a little harsh to ban someone for their views. I do agree that his views are a little bit messed up, but, I don't believe it warrants a ban. I know alot of people who feel in a similar fashion as wadeoe does, one day they may learn.

and yeah, this picture s really horrible. its just wrong. They take out pictures of dead men and replace it with some lousy ps2 game.

i hope you've written a strongly worded email to the people who put out this picture. if not then hurry up about it. you'll never make a difference if you keep your mouth shut about this, kick up a right old stink. email this to news sites and media sites, they'll eat this sort of thing right up.

those responsible will rue the day they put this pic out. if you need help writing letters etc i'm sure we'll all chip in.

Well I for one didn't know about the 'black stripe' thing on the picture until you told us, so maybe they didnt also?

Not everyone is out to be intentionally mean and disrespectful. Besides, most people who work on magazines are mind-less n00bs who dont even have a clue.

Just because they have done this does not mean that they went out of their way to find a picture of soldiers holding up pictures of dead people. They probably googled something and came up with that
 
look at the picture again. i find it a bit hard to believe someone could look at that and not deduce what the black stripe means. i think their reasoning was 'hey, no-one will find the original cos it's russian and so out of reach for anyone to find so let's just do it.' but they didn't count on actual russians finding the original and informing the rest of us. if that's what has happened then i'm disgusted.

when ur in the media business, its part of ur job description to be more well informed than the general public.. just because u "don't know" is not a good enough excuse, especially when ur working in the media..

whatever the reasons why this was done, be it "not knowing" is not good enough.. i see this is as very, [B}very poor[/B] research behind the work they did..

First off, you never explained who the guys was. i do have respect for him if he wasnt like PUTIN or STALIN. i never said i didnt have respect. I also have symapthy for his family and friends aslong as he wasnt like PUTIN or STALIN. I also didnt know that he died to terrorism. Maybe instead of flaming me you could explained who he was and what he did, for the russian people.

Well they should ****ing check before they use the picture then, which they would have had to anyway for copywright reasons to make sure they can leagally use the pictures. I doubt someone in the media industry wouldn't know about the black stripe thing and if they didn't, why did they not cover it up with the game's cover? why would you leave a big black stripe on if you can't think of any reason for it being there?

If these were British or American soldiers that had died in a terrorist attack then there would be an absolute uproar, but because it's russina soldiers the racists in the media industry think it's ok to make a cynicle joke at there expense. I think this is highly degradeing and is treating the Russian soldiers as something less than human, the magazine should be boycotted and any other products by the publishing comapny should too.
 
I can't believe this is an actual ad in an actual magazine. How would they feel if we taped halflife2.net flyer to their dead relatives' gravestones?
 
Yeah taht is pretty messed up to do that, but he also did have a point earlier, what if they were genocidal Nazi's holding up pictures of there dead comrades, and they replaced their pictures, i wouldnt care in the least. But since i dont know anything about why those russians (or whoever those troops are) died (which is obvious) i can only say that that game mag is kinda stupid. Or maybe that is just photoshoped becuase where the hell did you find the original picture along with the game mag pic?
 
oh give them a break, it was probally made by some stupid american designer. Im pretty sure they didnt know anything about the black stripe. besides russia and the us had been fighting a cold war for the longest time. americans are stupid.

You will notice how points 1 & 2 do not make any sense. You will also notice that Point 2 is essentially vetoed by Point 1. You will also notice that waedoe is a racist/xenophobic at the very least.
3. I can understand hating Stalin - the man was ruthless to say the least (although did a fair bit of good for his country, but that's another discussion). But why hate Putin? How is he comparable to Stalin?

I would like to add the obligatory: omg!1! dat mgagzine is teh suxx0rz, etc.

well frankly yes I would whine if this was about hl2. It would still be a horrible and disrespectful. And socom II is not a bad game, its one of the best things to come to ps2. its basiclaly jungle CS for ps2 online.

the game advertised is irrelevant.
 
well then, why dont we just say **** the artists who took their time to make that for a company. i mean comeon, it may be direspectful yes, but its still art, and art is art. Im not just dissing russian ppl either. if they had been american soldiers or korean soldiers or whatever, even if it was a picture of my father or grandfather, then yes i would still still think its disrespectful, but i respect the fact that its someones art too.
