Well I bought the 3rd game in the wonderful series. Is the 3rd as grand as the first two? I played the demo and thought it felt too much like "invisible war" but according to a few people here talking about it, really enjoyed it.

So did I make a good decision?

Sure. I've only played the demo, and some things they changed I did not like (things glowing blue when you use them, wtf?) and I do not like the graphics, but it's pretty much the same other than that, and that means good.

It's fun, and it's very underrated. It's not crap like IW. I never played the first two "Thief"s so I can't really compare them though.

A lot of people give Deadly Shadows a tough time. I wouldn't say it's as good as Thief 1 or 2, but it's still a very enjoyable game.

I don't expect it to top the first two. Those first two are Classics at its very best. Such an original story.

It has its quirks, but I loved the game. Enjoyed it more than HL2 or D3.

There's something very strange about the graphical style in both this game and Deus Ex 2... it feels very strange.. I think the engine devs put a lot of effort (and processing power, they're both pretty sluggish) into more complex but subtle effects and decided to neglect the more obvious ones (People could learn a lot from Valve, who seem to prioritise the right effects and get a high performance, high-detail impression even if the architecture is technically simplistic). The textures in both games are appalling, most obviously. Nice that the community stepped up to redo them, but that's still second best to the professionals doing it right, and it's a lot of hassle to get it all installed. The models too are often over simplistic, but then ALL Thief games suffer from low-poly modelling.

I played the tutorial and demo missions, but despite owning the game, i've never got further than that. It simply never drew me in. The Thief games are strange like that though. I've only ever got to the second mission in the first, and I forget where I was in the second. I think perhaps Sneaking isn't my style, or at least, I don't like being able to flip out once in a while and leave a corridor full of corpses, Deus Ex style.

I always wanted to get that game because the main characters name is also my name. Muaha.. PH33R TEH GARRETTS!!!

I freaking love that game. If only the engine were a tad more stable/optimized...

That's why I am waiting for The Dark Mod. :E

Thief Deadly Shadows, is comparatively better than rest of two, the previous series has better story but imo they lack sound & graphics. In thief DS you have more option to open the game (required skills) with new stealth tips (Shoot a moss arrow at an opponent's face to make him choke, remember in Keepers Library. If the Hammers or Pagans are allied with you, they will allow you to enter their territory. You can do favors for the Hammers and Pagans to improve your faction status with them. There are some side quests that you can accomplish for either the Hammers or the Pagans, but not both.) Sound is fantastic, this game also have better weather effects e.g. lightning and one more thing I really love that blue effects in this game it really makes me feels like your are in Middle Ages. In this game you can't eat anything but in previous you can, some weapons have been removed but some good weapons are replaced with better one. The guys who have played only Demo really its must play game.

Thief: Deadly Shadows is a stealth-based game developed by Ion Storm Austin rather than Looking Glass Studios (albeit with many of the same people), and is a major departure from the first two games in the series. The game is powered by the Unreal-based Deus Ex: Invisible War engine and unlike the original two titles, Deadly Shadows (Eidos and Ion Storm chose not to name the game "Thief III" for fear that it would alienate gamers new to the series) was developed simultaneously for Microsoft Windows and the Xbox.

Because of all these factors and many more (such as the project lead being fired before the game was finished), Thief: Deadly Shadows was relatively different from the first two games in the series in both appearance and gameplay.

One of the game's major new features was the ability to explore the City. While previous games sent Garrett straight from mission to mission, Thief: Deadly Shadows allows him to walk the City streets between missions where he can steal from passersby, spy on the townspeople, and complete the occasional sidequest in addition to major story missions.

I freaked out during the Sunken Citadel mission and never came back to it. I'd propably get a heart attack in the Shalebridge Cradle...

Speaking of which, why won't the people of the City dismantle the building by attempting it during the day and summoning fire to burn it to the ground?

Funnily enough i just bough this game at Game, on a special offer of buy two get one free (?15 for two). Such a classic, and like you say if you look past the odd problem here and there, its brilliant.

Cant wait for Assasin's Creed though...mmm

love eet!was able to look past its flaws because of the engrossing atmosphere, good story and excellent sound etc, garrett is such a cool protaganist, i'd love a new thief game with assassin's creed engine or in a similiar vein to how that game looks...

I love this game, but I haven't played it since Half - Life 2 came out. I just quit playing it because I kept getting intense motion sickness from it.
