Ok, so we have two or three buttons (or more) on our mice / joysticks, and they're usually set up to let us do different things with our weapon in hand - usually main fire & alternate fire.

But what about using whatever is in our hands, not in the various ways it can be fired or swung, but in the various intents with which we can use it?

I mean, you can shoot or "whip" with a pistol, but what if you want to take a hostage and *prod* them with the gun as a warning?

Wouldn't it be a cool feeling in a game, if you could leap into a room, and hold up your gun, arm outstretched, in a way which said, "drop your weapon or I'll shoot", and be greeted by a surprised expression (HL2 would excel at this of course) and the guy drops his gun and puts his hands on his head?

You can then use your gun to : a) knock him out, b) prod him to walk in front of you, c) threaten him again to get information from him. We may run out of keyboard keys here... but these simple things open up some interesting gameplay options.

Imagine creeping up behind a guard, prodding him in the back with your gun (or your finger?:)) to make him open that security door for you. He might comply, he might decide to turn and attack you.

So many possibilities for immersion and realism... is anyone else getting tired of running around shooting people? Why not a bit more interesting interaction with the enemy?

Yip, may not fit the formula of Half-Life 2, but I can't wait to see some of the great single player mods!

Cool ideas in general, but I'm not sure how well something like all that would work in HL2. Splinter Cell 3 maybe :)...

Sounds cool :)

Another way you could do this is that pressing the middle mouse button lets you move your arm forward by moving the mous forward and swing your arm by moving the mouse sideways.

There wos a game (i think on PS2 and pc) that u culd sneak behind ppl and grab their neck and point a gun at them then people wuld stop and drop their guns

EDIT: was DIE HARD: Vendetta, for game cube, i liked that feature..

i hate mouses with buttons on them, as a left hander, i always press them at the wrong times because they are in bad places.

lol.. I'm left-handed too, but mouse is still on the right. You can usually swap your mouse buttons around, you know...

I think that's an idea for HL3 or something.
Besides, how many people really DO have those extra mouse buttons?
I personally think I wouldn't buy such a mouse because the space on the mouse gets too cluttered, ad you start pressing the wrong buttons in wrong times.
I think it should be done (as it was said before) by key combinations (like in Mortal Kombat... :cheese: ).

ooh yeah... I'd like to see the 1st-person view of a spinning roundhouse combo kick. :)

I always bind the middle mouse button to jump, for effective bunnyhopping.

my thumb button drops my weapon (CS), my middle button is alt-fire and my right is jump... :p

What is this, some kind of mouse button show and tell?

Antic2 you win the Moron Of The Day award. Congratulations.

aww.. sorry to steal your thunder. Better luck next time! :)

But they come in really useful for things like throwing Grens In halo.

Every FPS should have the halo gren throwing method. It's makes grenade far more useful in a firefight.
