So I saved some cash to get myself a present, and now I am thinking what to get.

Here are the two choices:

Disclaimer: I DON’T CARE ABOUT GRAPHICS!!!

PS2:

-I want to play FFX, plus there will be FFXII soon
-Metal Gear Solid, want to see what’s all the hype about
-Bunch of random JRPG
-Uh.. what else?

X-box:

-Fable (I know a lot of been cut, I don’t care)
-Jade Empire
-KOTOR 2
-Riddick (hehe)
-Uh.. hmmm.. what else? (I don’t give a flying **** about over-hyped bullshit that is Halo series, so don’t suggest that piece of crap).

So yeah, that’s are the two choices. Last console I had was Super Nintendo, and it was a long time ago. Well elite gamers, any suggestions?

I'd get an Xbox man. The games for the system just interest me more. I think its because the games skew to a more American/European taste rather than a Japanese one. I'm a large fan of the Xbox.

yeah cause Killzone, MGS3, DMC3, GTA:SA, and God Of War are like so totaly japanese type games. Darkstar i think you need to be slapped then have "I Need To STFU" tattooed on your forehead.

The MGS series are nice... but nothing I loved to the extreme. I played the first ever metal gear on nintendo and it was awesome, you had to destroy this huge fking tank and it was totally awesome. Then I played Solid and I was left kind of dissapointed... The controls REALLY sucked I mean the shooting was horrible and fighting was kinda bland too. You can only avoid enemies for so long until you start getting bored of the same old stuff.

It also annoys me that they keep bringing in new metal gears instead of making up something new... metal gear in Solid was laughable. Blegh I don't see all the hype over this game these days... I really don't. The original Metal Gear will always be the best, I might give the series another chance if it spawns on the Xbox but its unlikely.

Edit: it is now 3 am, coherent thoughts are fleeting and flashes of lucidity are limited. Brain going into shutdown mode now, you can avoid reading the above post if you like. /pssssshoooowwwwww

I WAS RAISED BY A CUP OF COFFEE!

I've had experience with all the consoles, and I'd say that you should get a Gamecube.
It has the best multiplayer games out there currently. The remake of MGS1, Smash Bros Melee and Gamecube Soul Calibur 2 are the three most fun Games I've played in recent memory even better ones are coming soon (Resident Evil 4, The non-cell shaded Zelda). It also has the best controller of the three.

I was early in buying a PS2, and it looks like the good games are finally starting to come out. I'd say that it's worth it for MGS 2&3 on their own. I also love Armoured Core 2+Expansion pack. (Don't get any of the other AC games!)
If you find good games that you enjoy, it's worthwhile. It has Soul Calibur 2, which is also a plus, but the controls on Gamecube are far more natural to me.

I know little about the X-box. It has better graphics than the PS2 in many cases, but has a far smaller selection of games. None of them appeal to me really. KOTOR and HALO might be worth it, but I'm not qualified to say.

So, I'd get a gamecube. Definitely.
Then, if you like MGS: The Twin Snakes, get ahold of a PS2 for cheap so you can play the sequels, GTA and a crapload of other fun games that are both already out and coming soon.

The remake of MGS1 is fixed in that respect, since it uses the awesome controls and graphics from #2. It's my current favorite game, and I don't even own a Gamecube. My previous favorite was MGS 2. Obviously, I'm anticipating 3.

Sorry dude. Just giving my opinion. I think you need to chill out a little.

Hahaha priceless :D

Anyways i chose a playstation 2 back in the day, would'nt have it any other way - xbox just reminds me too much of a computer with gamepads and flashy green color.

Meh

Xbox. PS2 slows down on most new games i play on it. The Xbox hasn't failed me yet. Plus its got 4 controller slots and supports System Link. Its worth buying the game just to play Halo with system link :D Its awesome. Kicks PC versions ass

PS2 has Gran Tourismo....

xbox must bow down.....

ALL HAIL GT

yes the ps2 owns. i take my ps2 over xbox anyday, but that dosent mean xbox is crap, i just like ps2 better.

Consoles are only good with RPGs IMHO. The PS2 got all the RPG you can ever ask for, but its old... so it it will die out soon. Im sure that the gamecube (since its japanese, japs dont like xbox :D) will get some wicked RPGs later on, just give it some time (like the PS2). My lillbrother got a Gamecube and my bigbrother got a xbox (i only have retro consoles :D).

sonys never seem to die out, more people have them, so more games are made for them,

simple as that

hmm well if you think ps2 will die soon, the devs surely will disagree with ya there buddy.

Surely all the new games coming to ps2 isn't a sign of it dying off...

Its really a case of personal taste here, i really think that ps2 just feels like a console - like its meant to, and not like xbox, thats a console which is just trying to hard to be like a pc.

X-Box. As much as I hate consoles, the X-Box is superior in many ways. The Metal Gear Solid hames usually come ot the PC, and I think more FF games will come the the PC too atfer the success of FFXI. :D But, the same goes for some X-Box games. If I were you, I would go with the X-Box.

I love how every year people say the PS2 is too old now and will die out soon, and then E3 comes around and it turns out theres still a ton of awesome games for it.
I think this is a choice of where your tastes lie.
Do you like RPGs? If thats a yes then its the PS2 no matter what. XBox has only a handful, and even fewer good ones.
Is online play a factor? XBox surely wins this category.
Do you have a table capable of holding the mighty weight of the Xbox, or a desire to tip your console sideways?

If ps2 is so hard to kill, think how long gamecube/xbox will live :)

I stopped playing with consoles in the early 90´s so i dont really care about the console market anymore... so maybe i am wrong sometimes. Even the greatest can make misstakes :)

Plus, Bill Gates kills an african baby for every X-Box sold!

I have all the systems so I'm not biased towards any one in particular. I just like games, be it console or PC. But I suppose if I HAD to choose I'd go with the Xbox. That however is mainly because I get so much out of Xbox Live. The majority of my time is spent playing sports games (nfl 2k4, links, inside pitch, etc), crimson skies, project gotham, full spectrum warrior, mechassault, and a few others. I also enjoy using my Xbox on my HDTV, taking full advantage of it's 720p resolution. I really love the fact that I don't have to buy memory cards to keep my saved games. The hard drive stores more info than I'll ever use.

I do play my PS-2 as often as I can though. Of course, as someone mentioned, Gran Turismo was the sole reason I bought a PS-2 back when it was first released. But there have been other games down the pipe that I enjoyed. The Metal Gear series is an obvious one, along with Socom I & II. Though I don't find myself playing much multiplayer. I don't play sports games on PS-2, they're the same as the Xbox but I get better visuals and, IMO, better controls with the Xbox. I'm not an RPG fan by any means, so I don't feel I comment on those. I'm sure I'll end up getting some of the new games we saw at E3 as well.

Now on the the Gamecube. Nintendo will always be one of my all time favorites. I grew up with Mario and Link back when NES was first released. Nintendo has a proven track record of making great games, period. As long as there's a new Zelda, Mario, or Metroid I'll be buying Nintendo products. I'm also looking forward to the new Resident Evil. I hated the controls of the previous, so I'm hoping this new design method will remedey that situation. My biggest complaint with Nintendo is their lack of support for multiplayer. I'd love to see the next generation of their console go online similar to Xbox. I really think they could come up with some great multiplayer games with their current IPO.

So as someone pointed out earlier, it's really your personal tastes that should ultimately point you in the right direction. Like RPG's? Really want to play PS2 exlcusives (gran turismo, socom, etc)? Then go with Sony. Like multiplayer? Want great visuals? Don't want to spend extra money on assesories? Go with Microsoft. Like classic titles with proven track records? Enjoy great game design? Go with Nintendo.

For the record: Nintendo does seem to have some online strategy lined up. However, its for their next console. They don't see the point of trying to shoehorn the internet onto the cube, and want to instead just do it right from the start with their new system. A great example is the DS and its wifi capability.

How exactly does the console version of Halo kick the PC's versions ass?

The last console I touched was my old Playstation 1 that I sold for $50 so what can I say, and the first console I has was a Sega Dreamcast. I can still remember the thread on another forum about who would win Mario or Sonic.

w00t Sonic

do you seriously think Sony is better? Take a deep look at their marketing strategies.

Anyways, I'd go for XBox

YES, GET A GAMECUBE THEY OWN
metroid prime, legend of zelda: the wind waker (dispite what people say... it is CLASS! dont listen to the annoying people who say it is for babies), SSBM, mario kart (gr8 with mates) the new zelda, MGS: TS i could go on for ever!! plus the controller rules!!!

PS2 has run out of games and X-box never had any to begin with (though it is still a great console) but i would definately say GC is the best.

the new controls **** up the game....so like in the ocelot battle, instead of a tension filled fight you just aim through the middle and kill him quick

PS2 if you like JRPGs, racing games, and you want free online console gaming with non pc games

Gamecube if you want really fun games, even though they're directed at kids

Xbox if you wan't to pay a couple hundred bucks to play your pc games on your tv at lower quality, and 50 more a year so you can play them online with people you don't know instead of your friends that are all playing on their PCs

Yes, Sony only kills elderly people, and then feeds them to the masses in the form of Sony INC. tasty beef!

TASTY BEEF IS PEOPLE!

It's also been scientifically proven that Bill Gates is Satan. Buy into an X-Box, you're buying into your own damnation to hell.

Get a PS2. You got the likes of Gran Turismo, all the Final Fantasy games (best RPG's ever), Pro Evolution Soccer 3 if your a sports fan as well as the WWE Smackdown series. Then theres stuff like Metal Gear Solid which is excellent. The graphics on Metal Gear Solid 2 are incredible. Also Metal Gear Solid 3 is coming out soon which will be great. Then theres other games like Resident Evil, ICO, and Silent Hill. Theres also the eyetoy which is great for parties and stuff. As well as the gory stuff like Resident Evil and Silent Hill, you got Manhunt.

LOADS TO CHOOSE FROM. And the controller is much better on PS2

Plus, most of the good games on X-Box come out on the PC anyway, so its really a big waste of money.
