Personally i like the TPS games the best. I seem to enjoy those games more than FPS`s. There are allot of very nice games that are all TPS`s, like the GTA`s, Max Payne`s, Splinter Cell (soon to be `s), Freedom Fighters, Silent Hill`s, Jedi Knight`s, and for me recently, H&D 2 which i enjoyed immensely despite some of its drawbacks.

Its like i'm immersing more than i do with FPS games, i like to have this little character in the middle of the screen, it just feels better. If the character is well made, animations are great and so forth. Its even more rewarding to play these games in my mind.

I like FPS too. There is where i started to love games. But in comes the TPS and blows my mind. I just love`em and would certainly choose a TPS over an FPS any day. It seems that there must be something extra with an FPS if i am to choose it. But some games are just don't fit to be TPS. But imagine if we could have Gordon Freeman in front of us. would it be great or bad. I don't know. But one thing is certain. I would not like to play Sam Fisher in first person view.

I would definately have to say I enjoy the FPS better, just my opinion...
Third person shooters seem a little clunky to me, and most of them either go into a first person perspective to shoot (I.E. splinter cell, or metal gear solid), but i like tps' also....

-"Your dead, Your all DEAD!"..."Oh...Oh good, he thinks were zombies, we just might get out of this!"

Two years ago I would have said First Person Shooters... and while the majority of my gaming remains FPS, I'd say a good made TPS is often more enjoyable (single player, at the very least).

3rd person shooters arent as fun to me because if I turn out all of the lights and blast my soundsystem I actually start getting into the game alot... with TPS its like "oh... im following some guy shooting people. cool i guess."

I think FPS's are more emersive, your not following someone you are that person and the scale is often better in FPS's.

I like mafia though but not the new GTA's, the originals were top down.

Yeah, I think some games are better suited to be TPS. Like in GTA, what would be the fun in doing a drive-by shooting while doing a wheelie on a motorcycle if you could only see your hand with an uzi? ;)

i dont enjoy TPS nearly as much, the whole POV thing really helps me get into it

I have to say that FPS are great games for multiplayer for obvisous reasons. and TPS make for better looking games, it just looks cooler being able to see your character running around blasting, not just the gun. They should make a max payne mod so you can skin your self, or even just customize max with different clothes. It would help people get "into it" maybe if it emulated their own looks.

You could make yourself as a player model and use it in max.

I like both but it really depends on the game.
If I need very sensitive and accurate control then I hope it's an FPS!
If I need to know how I react with my surroundings then TPS!

They need more games where you can toggle your POV. So if you want FPS you get FPS and if you want TPS you get TPS and if you want BEV you get BEV.

And every game should have a demo replay feature that allows you to place the camera anywhere you like, have it move to any other place along a track and the ability to slow down or speed up the action. After running through some levels, where I sometimes get into the zone and just become a killing machine (Im sure you know those moments of videogame-zen too) I would always think about how cool it would be if I could direct the movie of what just happened. I guess thats why I like the game Driver so much, to me the most fun in that game is after the chase where I can play movie magic. :) I just wish you could move the camera on an independent track, so you could have it fly around to where you want to, and do things like bullet time and VC. If you think about it, how hard would it be in impliment?

Around four months ago I remember there was a thread with a poll for the same purpose. Any way I remember most of us agreed 4 months ago that third person only to be used where there is slow action or it does not require fast moving such as splinter and max. while as you can see Q3, HL and HL2 can not be playable in third person becuase of the fast action they have within a small area.

So basiclly:

Third person for slow action games such as MAX PAYNE...etc
First Person for fast action such as Q3, HL, HL2.....D3....etc

I personally think TPS is better, but that's mainly because of max payne and jedi knight. GTA didn't really do anything special with the TPS view, MP and JK on the other hand had several 'special' moves that would be impossible to use in a first person viewpoint.

Third-person multiplay is a bit weird... I can see you, but you can't see me!

tps are very different style of play, but i think fps are better and more universal or a "jack of all trades" whereas i feel tps are more stealth.

Let me ask, in real life, can you take your eyes out and have them float behind your head?
I don't think so.

Thus FPS is way more realistic...and more challenging, in TPS mode, you can peek around corners without showing your body.
In FPS, you can do the same, but not to a same degree.

Games are not meant to be realistic, they are meant to be fun. Making a game realistic is just one of the many ways to make it fun.

if someone shoots you in real life you die, are imobilized or bleed to death, now thats what i call a realistic game.

I kind of like the H&D approach of offering you TPS and FPS, and allowing you to switch between them. It would of been nice occasionally in max payne to go FPS for example.

You can with sniper rifles

I like bolth. Max payne 1 and 2 where awsome! But so was RTCW and UT2003 and U2 U1 UT and quake 2 and 3 and doom 1 2 and looks like 3 will be too.

Morrowind was a perfect example of a fps/tps game. I personally played it as a fps, but my brother preferd the tps view.

Both are excellent, it just depends on the game. Playing Max Payne just wouldn't be right if it were a FPS. Meanwhile I also couldn't imagine playing Half Life as a TPS. It depends on the game, neither is better than the other overall.

LOL I remember a long, long time ago, the first FPS I saw was Wolf 3D. I was like WTF?? I don't get it.

It took me a while to comprehend the whole FPS concept.

I still say its so simple, just have it as a toggleable feature. Wheres the harm in just letting you decided what kind of POV you want?
