I think this was just a very simple example of how to make a mod than it is an actual other mode. I mean they obviously have used nothing more than the models/weapons from HL2, and some minimal balance changes.

I love half-life 2, but I don't think that this multiplayer comes close to having the polish that HL2's single player does.

Then again this isn't a bad thing, we know now that Valve will continually back their content, and we can hope ot expect more of them in the meantime.

The mods will definately be the true multiplayer of HL2 IMO, for they will most definately push it new directions.

Apart from the maps, HL1's multiplayer was almost identicle to the single player, as you describe the HL2DM.

What were you expecting to see?

My expectations are high. I can see how the mod community can elevate this mode of play to unheard of heights. The possibilities are tremendous with physics and gives new life to games which, before, had reached a level of "Been there, done that" almost across the board.

My next source of expectations is going to be in new and unusual weapons, where the gravity gun has started a revolution in gameplay, there are still more ideas that can make DM a fun game again.

This is everything I expected tbh. Classic DM, can't beat it.

If the MOD community has anything to do with it we'll see fully functionioning maps with Vehicles, hell, if they're good enough VALVe will probably release them on a large scale basis over STEAM.

From what I've heard, vehicles are already possible, but spawnable with commands. If someone were to build a map with them, there ya go!

I gotta run. I got a DM map to put together!
