Is this system worth how much the site wants for it?

You can get that exact same system for alot cheaper, if you build it yourself.

If I build it myself none of the parts come with a warranty do they? So if I spent lets say 400 dollars on the graphics card and its faulty would I have to buy a new one? Also how would I put the OS on the computer? Is there some web page that would help tell you how to put the computer together because I've never put my own computer together before.

If you don't have any experience building your own computer you may want to have a computer savy friend help you out, if you know anyone. If not just have it built, it looks like kickass system.

If you buy the part, it should have a manufacturer's warranty with it. id est, if your Vantec powersupply breaks, contact Vantec.

just for your info, you dont need the top cpus, motherboards, or 256 radeon. im not saying these products are bad, im saying they are waAAAAAAAY overpriced. if its halflife, doom3 and upcoming games you want to play, swap the 256 radeon with a 9800 pro 128, drop that cpu and go for a athlon xp 2800+ (or if you like pentiums, a P4 2.8 Ghz)

that system will run hl2 on the highest settings with 70+fps. now im not saying i know everything, but i promise you hl2 will run like i said with the parts i recomended.

see right now you dont need a 3.0+ghz cpu, or a 800 fsb cpu. the smart thing to do is buy top of the line parts (like the ones i said) that will run every game perfectly for about 1-2years, then after that youl have a ton of cash to upgrade a cpu and mobo, so your never really left behind. just my suggestion.

If you have 2300 to throw down. I'd wait to be perfectly honest. The amd64's codename "Diego" Are dew out sooner than you think. Wait till we see winxp64 and/or "longhorn" for your new OS. Then build you system around that. If your the type that can't wait adn have the (I need to buy something soon) then by all means purchase a p4CE and Im sure you'll be happy. THOugh my money gets well spent every tax season. GL

1. Drop the "ASUS P4C800 Deluxe" motherboard, and get something like the, "Asus P4P800-Deluxe".

The "P4C800" gives you the following over the "P4P800":
- PAT (Performance Acceleration Technology) - which essentially lowers memory latency giving you a 3-5% performance increase.
- ECC memory support - using ECC memory isn't realistic unless you plan to run a server.

Now ASUS' "P4P800-deluxe" loses you ECC (oh no), but basically allows you to still enable PAT (although ASUS doesn't call it PAT), so you should get about the same performance for less money.

2. Think about if you're going to need 1024MB of RAM. Unless you do graphics processing or heavy audio work, this is probably overkill. I'd save a few bucks and go with 512. Even look at review sites setups when they benchmark games. For the most part they only use 512MB of RAM.

3. "ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 256 DDR AGP 8x w/ TV-Out and DVI"? Get the 128MB version. 256MB isn't going to give you any advantage right now, many benchmarks have shown that. And by the time 256MB actually does make a difference, a better card will be the same price.

And buy all the parts on their own, and pay $40 or so to have someone put it together for you. It will cost less then having it pre-assembled by some retailer.

Well the reason I gave the computer these spec is because I don't plan on buying a new computer for a very very long time. Also I don't upgrade my computer that often either so I just planned on getting a computer that would last me a goos while. I don't care if something new is coming out soon because there is always something else new coming out. So if I wait until that thing comes out (i.e. a better graphics card) people are going to say "Wait until the better one comes out" and its going to be an endless cycle of waiting lol :rolling: .

Yep that's the game bud. I'd maybe get know your system that you have now. Do some format c: and learn how to install all the os sp?/chipset/bios drivers. Learn which ide's go where and so on. Then after you do that about 5-6 times you might have formating down.( under 5-6hours)

AND HE LOSES 3 FPS OFF THE 300 HE ALREADY HAS IN QUAKE 3! HE CANNOT DO THAT! HE MUST GET THE P4C800!

Is it actually honest-to-God cheaper to buy seperate parts and build your own? I was thinking of butchering my current system to help build a new one in a Frankenstein stylee... But then I could simply buy/build an entirely new one and sell the old one for a fee... Anyone got advice?

By a router and network the 2 together. Then you have 2 machines. One for games and w/e and one for storage and files.
