You know, not one person so far (AFAIK) has questioned the authenticity of this script.

Am I alone in thinking that this might actually be a red herring? A way of generating publicity?

I'd be damn happy if it was cos I have already inadvertently read parts of it when pr!cks have posted summaries of it in forums!

how are you sure its real. sounds like it was placed there on purpose to me, but im all about the conspiracies.

I have been thinking the same as you, yet I was afriad to voice my opinion. Well done! I stand behind you.

I'm not sure about the whole thing. All I know is that if you wanted to, there are plenty of games that you could spoil before you play it if you poke around the files; I think it was Thief that had all cinematics its available before you even started the game. The only reason not to do it is if you don't want to spoil the game.
I guess it's a big deal here because the game (HL2) is not released and it's the first big game to be pre-loaded through Steam (not to mention the hype).

actually you're the third person I see in two days to question the authenicity of the script.
You know, for one thing it's too big: they would have to have hired someone to fake it since last year's leak or something. Writing all this and releasing it a month before the release of the game to generate some hype seems ridicilous to me, I mean: what's the point?!

It won't stop hackers from trying to steal the game or the code: Hackers aren't motivated by the desire togenerate hype, they probably want to prove themselves; do something extraordinarily exceptional!
No hacker would think "yeah well, the script got leaked, there is no need for me to hack anything" that's just stupid, hackers don't think that way.

Didnt Gabe himself say that the script existed... And i doubt they'd put it there for publicity; if anything, its negative publicity.

People won't believe until people see, people afraid what people don't see. I think the A.I is that good and can work miracles though not turn water to wine.

On what authority do you have that he's wrong. You stated that he's wrong, but you didn't state how hackers think, just that they don't think in the way hasan stated. Very good argument; you should feel happy. For someone with 6 posts, you are really coming off as a troll.

Hackers are motivated by hype, but all the hype they want is from doing something exceptional. To hear about yourself in the news in such a way would be pretty cool. Releasing some story elements wouldn't curb hackers, and wouldn't benefit Valve in any way I can forsee. Half-life 2 will generate tons of hype when they finally release it; all this'll get them is bad publicity and make them look like liars (not all publicity is good publicity, contrary to what some people seem to think).

My assumption is people hack for all differnt kinds of reasons.. I personally enjoy the challenge. Hacking involves doing something to a program even though design time was put in specifically to try and stop you from doing that. What better challenges are there? Most stuff i've hacked i've entirely stopped paying attention to once i figured out that i could do it.
