I just watched the ATi teaser flash again and I noticed that there was a heartbeat. I realize that it's just an ad and not representational of the actual game, but do you think they will add a heartbeat sound when the action begins to get intense? I hope they do. I think that it would make the game that much more immersive and intense...

that would scare me and my own heart would burst and i would die... not a good idea

Yah, that would suck... valve would lose its fanbase before they even got into the game itself.

That would be distracting. The heartbeat is movie trailer cliche #1. They just borrowed it.

There was a heartbeat in HL1 so i think it'll be in hl2 :)

there was?? I didn't even notice it if it was in HL1....

Time to replay HL again...

heartbeat ehhh... it could work, depends how u use it. sometimes it gets pretty cheesy, but i guess we'll c

if you can hear his heartbeat you should also be able to -
  • Sneeze when you walk into some dust
  • Make chokie sounds when in teh water :D
  • Squint if you look directly at the sun or when walking outside
  • Adjust his pants when alyx has her back turned
  • Breathe
  • Make suprised sounds whenever a nasty thing pops up

So I doubt it.

Hmmmm.... good times for a heartbeat? Lemmesee...

After a whole bunch of guys have just shot at you...

Before entering a boss fight or after a fight with a really nasty alien...

Times of intense puzzle solving that involves great heights and any time where there is complete darkness...

I've played a lot of games, and half-life is the only one I can think of with a heartbeat.

And it wasn't a movie trailer, it was in game. Scripted, but still first person.

Well, I'm saying the ad borrowed the "heartbeat" convention from movies. Hearbeat in HL1 happened during that first sequence when the reactor went. But I wouldn't want to have a heartbeat pounding everytime something tense was going on. When I've been tense, I've never heard my heart beat, though I haven't been chased around by Striders either.

Nah, it's an ad gimmick. You can also find heartbeats in thriller/horror movie trailers that never shows (or produces sounds of) a heart.

Max Payne, all over the place. ;)

So I doubt it.

In Opposing Force in the beginning when you black out you can hear yourself breathing :p

Operation Flashpoint had your heart beating more when you ran.. it did breath too.

In BattleField 1942 when your team was on the verge of losing the game, there would be a hearbeat noise.

After playing that game for so long, that heartbeat noise STILL freaks me out.

Speaking of things that freak you out: I was getting really disturbed when I was playing Black and White and I kept hearing a voice say softly in the background, "Naaathhaaann".

Anyone else get caught by that "feature"? :E
