TIME magazine delcares PS3 a bust

To early to tell, for sure. But i still think the 360 wont his battle.

It's too early to tell, but I do have a hunch that it won't end well for Sony. Nothing about the PS3 appeals to me. Weak launch titles, public lashings from game devs, the whole "We're Sony, **** you guys we do what we want" attitude, and the lame marketing team they have makes Sony = :borg:

Everyone's saying that the 360 will win. I think they've understimated the PS3 and I'm sure it'll come back and bite them all in the butt. Give it 1 year from it's release in Europe to judge it. The PS2 had a crap launch too.

It's 360 vs PS3, with the Wii in a category on it's own where it can't lose.

I vote it will do MUCH better after shit gets worked out...

You mean like price...good games...more supply...free hdtv with purchase...

Time also declared me the Man of the Year. Clearly it is run by idiots.

Anyone calling it right now is stupid. The PS3 just came out. The Wii just came out. It will take a good two years or so before any side can be declared a clear winner. I'm reserving judgement til all of the platforms have reached maturity.

Nicely put.

+5 for you.

Hmmm, that's not exactly giving PS3 good press :P

I mean I think a huge part of this whole thing is that everyone just keeps ripping on Sony, and then it just keeps snow-balling and now huge magazines are starting to declare it a loser. That's obviously going to make it into the mainstream consumer mind-sets and it will definitely influence society.

It's sort of the artificial becomes reality.

Sony is a crappy, uncaring company only concerned with profits and proliferation of their brand. This is not artificial, this is fact. With all the bullshit things Sony has done in regards to the PS3, including but not limited to the whole "You cannot sell or rent our games" fiasco, it's no question why I want the PS3 to fail. You can't reward this bullshit.

Wait, we cant even rent games now?

Wasn't there a big debacle a while ago about how Sony didn't want anybody to be able to resell their games, and so they wouldn't be sold at game renting places, and you couldn't rent them because games are registered into a particular PS3?

But you are able to sell/rent now, right?

I thought so anyway.

But the thought that they planned to incorporate such a thing in the first place... just really boils my bloods(har har Kirovman).

I agree that things Sony has said has been rather bone-headed.

But saying that the platform has failed when it only began a few weeks ago is rather impulsive, and I'm sure everyone could agree.

Sure some of us may want Sony to fail because of what they've done and said, which where I think a lot of people fall into. They disagree with a lot of what Sony says or does, so then just go out and apply the thinking to whatever they do.

Either way, in the end I'm glad I have my 360 :D

Aus release - Japanese imported games - profit.

The PS3 needs aisles of rpgs before it come become a success we all know that. Sure weak launch titles but imo every console has had weak launch titles. The Wii release in Australia is a good example you'll get Wii sports that's about it. Give the thing a year or two to settle in. The wii has done excellently even busting a few records for most amounts of hardware sold in 4 days. The 360 has been out for awhile and has only just recently in my mind gotten games worth playing.

They sure are cutting down their chances of profits by shutting down companies that imported games to fans from other countries. There's tons of RPG nerds who like to import stuff, and that I can imagine account for a considerable amount of profit. Which apparently sony doesn't like.

Far too early to call it, but I hope this declaration proves to be prophetic.

Sony botched the launch ... but I mean it isn't like the things have been slow movers. The only real mistake they've made so far is not producing anywhere near enough to satisfy demand. It seems to me the quality of the hardware has held up much better than should normally be expected ... I haven't heard of any real bad launch issues (unlike with launch 360s which wound up having about a 1 year lifespan). The Wii hasn't had that many problems either, except for the strap thing, but that's minor.

Once they actually start shipping the things in large quantities on a regular basis, then we can even begin to judge how things are going. I mean, for all intents and purposes the thing has barely even launched, we've seen nothing that can be used to judge how the average consumer will respond to it.

If I were going to put money on it, I'd say the PS3 would have the largest userbase when all is said and done.

It is way to early to call. It will really depend on the future games. If developers decide against making their game for the PS3 because not many people have a PS3 or it costs them too much to do then the result would be fewer people would buy a PS3 even if the price dropped because of the game selection. Or developers could continue to make games for it regardless and bet on the future with people buying a PS3 after the price is lowered.

Apparently the PS3 has atrocious backwards compatibility. There's a comparison video on Youtube showing (in split screen) the difference between PS2 games on the PS3 and PS2. There's also a rumour with some validity regarding MGS4's exclusivity (I would still take it with a good helping of salt).

I personally have no interest in buying the console right now, but I think it's too early to declare the thing a flop.

360 should be winning but it's not really looking that promising. Gears of War was huge but the console sales in November were not. It's sad that the the most technically deficient console is probably going to win (wii).

How the hell is that a bad thing?

Right.

It's a good thing that the most fun console is going to win.

More games on the wii therefore less work to push the graphics and physics in games on all platforms. More games that have gimmicky controls and more party games and games for younger/casual audience.

Uhhhhh.....I think it's a bit early to declare it a bust.

Don't get me wrong...very difficult to argue with Time's points about price and supply issues and I'm not even a fan of Sony, per-se, but this is just way too early. Anyone that thinks this thing is not going to sell in the long-run is just foolish.

But, at the same time, when compared to the Wii launch...what a joke. Nintendo just gave everyone a stern lesson on how to properly launch a console.

A 'bust' 1 month into the release when console lifespans last ~5 years...

Well I'll be damned, this just makes too much sense!

:sniper:
the pc has always been the platform pushing technology forward not the consoles
go Wii!

although it'll be only a matter of time before the Xbox360 'appropriates' a similar controller :p

"And next year folks, how PC gaming arose back from the ashes"

People were saying that last year ;)

It's way too early to write off the PS3. As soon as some decent games arrive and the hardware becomes readily available they'll start flying off the shelves. A few price drops and a slow weaning of the fans away from the PS2 will make all the difference.

Power wise i'm not that impressed - a whole year on the 360 and there's very little, if anything, between them. I haven't seen any games that are forcing me to get the credit card out either, but that's just a matter of time.

As long as games are fun, don't give a damn about pushing the envelope.

Both preferable. But fun is priority.
