How long does it take from a game going gold to actually being physically manufactured at the distro centers? someone with real knowledge give me the step by step process of how this all works. i know there has probably been a thread about it but when i searched it didnt give any definitive answers.

No-one knows for sure...

Why does it matter? The game is coming out the 16th, we already KNOW the release date.

Well.. I answered you.. :p

No-one knows for sure..

Given the fact that we already have the release date, I would say no more than a month!

Heh.. Logic is fun!

I think they start to physically manufacture the game a few hours after it has gone gold.

I'm sure there are people out there that know. I think it varies. I'm sure there are alot of distributers and manufacturers out there all working for different publishers. Some games seem to have very small periods between Gold and release, but games that are shipped on a world wide release are almost always three weeks or more.

being that this game will be shipped worldwide and released on the same day, im sure thousands of copies of hl2 are being processed as we type, therefore some dude at a manufacturing plant will be sneaking away a stolen copy of hl2 to his local warez release group, only to realize that this game cant be unlocked because of the 128bit encryption system that valve has in place. yeah.. im thinking there wont be a pre-release of hl2, unlike what happened to halo2 and gta san andreas.

Wow.. I have never had to say that before.

It will take about 2 to 3 weeks. Mass-cd burners only burn up to about 200 at a time, which takes 10 min or so (who knows how many they have though).

they will have a few plants burning a few thousend disks at a time. I really wouldnt expect more then a couple of weeks initial shipements of games would be going out I would expect next week to be honest to the localised locations. depending how the game is produced. e.g. was it the localised disk/content wired to local production or is it all done at VUG in one location in the states. but a couple weeks to be honest

They don't "burn" the CDs, they are stamped, which is a much quicker excercise.

I am using the term so as that the "uninformed" or people who are unaware of the process can understand. Its much easier then explaining it.

25 days, 8 hours, 4 minutes, and 30 seconds left until HL2 is out
according to the time this was posted
