ok, we've all heard of P.H.L.A.K., but look at this! it's amazing... it fits on 1 floppy... and has lots of apps.... but i still think PHLAK is better :p

neither site seems to be very newb-friendly.

Tell me: Why do I care and how can I play with it?

It changes your OS ( operating system ) at boot up!

By booting up with a diffrent OS you can change the way your PC handles things, from what i can make out of it, ( read forums there ) that some guy used it because he could not run linux under the windows operating system he had and by using this to boot up with he could run the linux.

Thats the only use i can figure why he would post it over here. I like the way he posted "we have all heard of this and then links phlak" so it will be interesting to here from him some more details plz ...

PHLAK is a OS for hackers?

That sucks, atleast because I think it'll mainly get used by people to try to ruin stuff for other people through hacking their systems etc.

phlack seemed like an OS that you can put on a cd. Now this seems very lethal because say you could put the cd into any random computer (work, school, public library) and then start attacking people through it.

Nothing illegal with hacking, you're thinking about crackers.

Amithlon boots from a CD. Nice operating system. Sort of. It's kind of... part emulator.

Ah, yes, crackers, those're the ones that ruins peoples PC systems using trojans etc right?

This thing seems pretty good, you can bypass all protection on a computer that is OS based and get right to the programs. This is good for hacking from a public computer i'm sure, but it's also great from a trouble shooters point of view. Say windows is totally crapping out, and you can't run a virus scanner to check it, this little program would be great for getting around that, or just getting to much needed files in an emergency.

It's not good that you can bypass protection etc, it sucks.

Crackers(Those that attack peoples computers) have no life because they apparently find it funny acctually ruining other peoples lifes.:\

Right. Hackers is basically a person that know a program very well and know how to use it (for everything bascially... even things it wasnt coded to do).

Crackers are the bad guys.

Yup, exactly what I was thinking :E

Same, I could make great use of it at school :p

Lets be honest though, any good cracker is going to be able to bypass security on a PC anyway without this program. I mean, problem most crackers have is breaking security on a remote computer, a bootable OS isn't going to fix any of the major issues.

On an unrelated note, this would have been incredible if it came out 4 or 5 years ago.

This is to bypass security on your own PC. Crackers are, in general, not the bad guys who attack other people's computers. They're the ones who make cracks for programs that allow you to say... use it without buying it etc...
Hackers ARE people who attack your computer by looking for an open port etc...
However, they are also people who hack their own programs to better suit themselves.

This particular program has basically no use for hacking, or cracking. You could just put your IP spoofer etc... on a CD and install them on a public PC running windows. If the PC was "protected," they could just use a floppy to boot into DOS and do it that way.

Such OSes are becoming fairly commonplace, Knoppix can run off of a floppy for crying out loud.

Cracks are bad, if you want the program buy it, alltho that doesn't count if the program costs over 100 USD :p

Cracks arn't so bad, they're definately important if you want to play old games with copy protection you need a manual for.

Well, yeah, for old games their good, but I've never needed to use a crack for the old DOS games I've got
