Take a look at this article and think of it every time you want to insult someone on the internet.

Maybe I'm blind but....what article?

EDIT : ah, yes, I'm blind, found it now :o

This forum is quite good in terms of flaming, the only real flaming I have seen goes on in the politics forum. That is good enough reason to keep the politics forum, keeps the flamers out of general discussion

Did you ever think about the fact that people may have cried because of something you have said in the heat of a game? That someone might have given up the game because you had to throw insults at them? That, in a worst case scenario, someone might commit suicide because of a snide and spiteful forum post?
I really hope that this kidarctica is a women....

How can you cry over something that happened on the internet? I know I spend a lot of time (probably too much time) on the internet, but crying over something that happened online is taking it to the next level.

Oh noes!! I might have made someone cry because I said "I pwned you" when I shot them in counter strike!! Wow I am a pure evil human...

Would you cry for an online friend who died? I did.

Only if it was Zerimski

j/k

lol, some peeps got nuts though, was playing cod:uo today, i jumped in the jeep and started driving, the guy who was on the mg went nuts at me moving the jeep calling me a 'fu*kin pr**k' and telling me not to do it again or he'd f-in 'slaughter me' n stuff, guys like this need more to their lives.

oh yeah he called me a 'filthy jew' aswell, shows how much of an idiot he is.

I always treat people on the net how I'd treat them in real life, you son of a bitch.

Just kidding.

I'm sure all people who flame racist comments or whatever see real people behind the nicknames, it's just they don't care because they can't get punched through their monitors, yet.

And if there are people that take hateful comments to heart, then maybe they need their head checked out too.

what makes me laugh is how the majority of people who fire off nasty comments, will often do it anonymously, how brave of them.

Good read..but there comes a responsibiliy when you go on a forum or on Battle net or anything else (especially CS). You MUST expect insults and profanitity to occur. It's our fault not to expect these things and get hurt by them. The person who is doing these things is not at fault..it's our fault. If we don't like it we can leave...until the day comes when "internet police" finally become a reality...don't expect this type of thing to go away anytime soon. We all have to learn to deal with it.

meh, people either really like or really detest my online persona

some people expect more ...had an internet friend who was pissed at me cuz my wife was pregnant ...said our friendship would change ...that weirded me out a bit

well actually I just told him that if he said something like that again, I'd ram my fist down his throat and rip his lungs out and feed it to my dog ...he hasnt talked me since ;)

When I play online games, I expect to be insulted, I expect people to act like jackasses, I even welcome it. It's what makes it fun heh. This "KidArctica" takes it too seriously if you ask me.

“You cold blooded bastard, I'll tell you what I think of it. I'll live to see you eat that contract. But I hope you leave enough room for my fist. Because I am going to ram it into your stomach, and break your goddamn spine!"

so many stories like this - yes, some people really do develop (or think they develop) real friendships and can be just as hurt as if their friend from next door did something...

Heard many stories ending badly...

I thought this was gonna a thread about homosexuals.

Anyways, I think if someone cries cause of insults on the internet they probably shouldn't be there in the first place. I don't think that the internet is a "not real" world it's just a social world where most of your actions don't have any long lasting consequence. I mean sure, you could get yourself banned from a channel, but you can easily just find another one. As such, your words and actions do not have to be weighed as heavily before you say things. That's why some people like the internet. Where in real life you would always be second guessing the words coming out of your mouth, worrying what people will think of you, in the internet you can just blurt whatever you want and it doesn't matter what people think. It's liberating.

It was a good read. Many people are overly assholeish on the internet. Its just not necessary. Not nearly as much trash talk in real life. And real life conversations arent nearly as chock full of wise-ass comments as forum convos are. Anoniminity is a bitch aint it?

You do any of that in real life, no one will like you. You might say you dont care what anyone else thinks, but deep down everyone wants to be liked. Just human nature really. And if you are enough of a trash talker/wise-ass, you'll get a fist in your face or end up dead.
