To lean or not to lean

I replayed HL recently and realized that you can't lean around corners. In order to engage an enemy you have to step out in the open. I guess I have gotten spoiled with games coming out in the last couple of years.
Will you be able to lean in HL2?

How are we supposed to know? :p

I never lean in any other game that allows it so I certainly hope it's not in HL2.

Leaning is not that great. It gets in the way and sometimes confusses AI.

Yea, leaning pwns.

Doesn't really matter if it isn't implemented in HL2, I won't complain... happy either way :)

Assuming Ant Lion knows what he/she is talking about, that's too bad. To me leaning is more like real life. Your not going to jump up in the middle of a gun battle and blaze away. No, you would try to expose as little of yourself as possible. Since the HL2 team seems to be trying for maximum realism (could be wrong here), it just seemed to make sense to also use leaning.

Confused AI?

HL2 shouldn't have that problem.

I would, but that's just me.

so far from all the FPS i played which came with the option, i really only used it in Raven shield. the other games just didnt require you to use it to pass the game, so i didnt... one less thing to worry about

I only use the lean option to look at guns at different angles, I only think Half-Life 2 should have leaning if you can shoot.

I just love people here. “I don’t use lean, so it sucks, Hl2 should not have it” or “HL2 won’t have leaning, because it sucks”. Maybe for once try to be more open-minded? So if you don’t use leaning, doesn’t mean other people don’t. Isn’t it better for HL2 to have more futures, than less? With your guys logic we can go back to Doom I times. I mean who needs story, interaction, physics? Let’s go back to ancient times and just shoot people. I am tired of people dismissing other’s people ideas for no reason what so ever.

I would love a lean feature. I've gotten so used to it in Raven Shield that I actually miss it when I play other action games. I hope Valve does include it even if 90% of the players never use it.

i say that they should put it in. IF you dont want it DONT use it.
simple as that.

Mr Reak.

You're a gem baby!

Yeah you are!

You monkey man!!!

:cheese:

I wouldn't miss it if they left it out because I'd be too awed by all the other stuff to worry about it, but if I had a choice I would want to have a leaning feature included.

Leaning might not be very important in single-player, but it could be very useful in multi-player.

Leaning would let you peek around corners while making it hard for your human opponents to spot you becaue you're not exposing your entire body. I am all for anything that adds meaningfully to the strategic element of first-person games.

I think it would be a great feature, even if its not enabled by default just the option in controls would be great.
Come on HL2!

I NEED MY "E" BUTTON!!!!
Half-Life introduced me to using e as the use key, and i'm not about to change to RMB that for anyone!

However, leaning does help in some games, i.e. NOLF 2....

actually i found the use system in raven shield a bit better, a bit more engaging if you will. my default setup for most games though is asdw then e and q for lean and f is use.

To lean!

I love leaning, I want it in Halo 2 (and I do get it) and I want it in Half-Life 2.

I love it in Medal Of Honor.

if tha AI would work properly, then they would attack you even if they saw u leaning...i mean like they wouldnt attack you just because they dont see ur body...its ****ed

You can also lean with a combination of keys in most games that have leaning. Like use + strafe. Can't say I enjoy leaning though. And I don't know how it would work out in multiplayer.

shamless plug...

Digital Paintball has leaning. It is VERY helpfull in the tactics and flow of game, as it is VERY often used in paintball IRL.

http://digitalpaintball.net/

give it a try, see if you really like leaning in HL or not

Leaning will be an option so who like leaning he/she can enable it in the control menu, or disable it. :cheese:

I don't really care if it has leaning. I'm not going to use it anyway. With one hand on the mouse, 3 fingers on the arrow keys and one barely reaching Ctrl for crouching, I don't see how it is possible.

Leaning might be useful in multiplayer (and I bet it's not too hard to code it into a mod) but in single player it's practically useless.

I am kind of tired of people trying to add unsporting features to games and then hiding behind the fact that it's possible IRL. I mean, what next, we get games where the skillless n00bs can hide in bunkers and launch nuclear warheads and kill everyone? I mean, it's possible IRL n all. Shooting at someone who's in the open with just your head exposed, and sniping from hundreds of meters away hiding in some shadow are real unsporting tactics.
Your victim has almost no chance to defend himself, hardly a 'game' if you ask me.
