I don't mind being dissappointed. I think Valve have proven that HL2 is a game that deserves high expectations and I think that when people expect less, they will get less. I don't need to cushion my feelings about a game. And besides, I still think Valve have quite a few surprises up their sleeves and most naysayers just don't have very imaginative minds.

Its a continuation of the genre that we like, I finished playing halo an dI just remembered how immersed I felt with the atmospheric sounds and music. Its a relief because half-life is so damn old and yet people will keep playing it. I also play battlefield 1942 multiplayer, another good game. Everything else out there which is multiplayer is dribble. I finished max payne, it had good physics, though it was arcade like, and I never felt immersed which is the feeling you want. Part of that is being scared some of the time... I can see great multiplayer moments to come with this game, for a long time.

Even though you are wrong about the graphics, and are probably some 12 year-old, please dont buy it so we dont have to meet u online. That strangley reminds me of the CS community.....

Oh, and one more thing. Go play the Far Cry demo, then watch the Technology Test. I think HL 2 looks muuuch better.

I never really thought HL the game iself was anything amazing, but the multiplayer took the cake on that one.
Although the majority of you bicker and babble about how much CS sucks, it is the backbone of HL's success, and to be quite honest I played CS for a few years like any true fanatic. But now I just play it on occasion, because I have better games such as BF1942 and DC

Just admit it, your sitting there thinking this game is going to be just as good and entertaining as HL1 was back in the day, but it won't.

The chances of HL2 beeing just as revolutionary a gaming experience as HL1 was back in 1998 are extremely small.

How many sequels of true classics actually achieved the success of there predecessor? It can't be many.

So try to take a realistic look at this game, if it's anything more then great, if it's not you won't end up beeing disappointed.

Try to look at Half Life 2 as a next Metal Gear Solid 2.

We all expected that to be just as good as the previous MGS but the story sucked and you ended up playing with some naked blond dude, eventhough the graphics were great and the game on it's own without beeing in the shadow of it's predecessor, wasn't that bad.

It's healthier to not expect so much from this game and it's probably the only way you can manage not to come here every day and build up so much hype inside your head that whatever HL2 will end up beeing, your STILL going to end up beeing disappointed.

The mods will never be able to achieve the succes and popularity of HL1 mods, it's just asking for the impossible.
When HL1 mods were created we were in the middle of the internet boom, everyone was buying a PC to email and surf the web.
These people are not upgrading, they still play counterstrike and are happy and will probably continue to play counterstrike untill the end of times.
So far fewer people will show interest in HL2 mods, less players = less sales= shorter life span for HL2 as a whole.

I'm not saying it won't be good! I'm saying that it's almost impossible for HL2 to have the same impact HL1 had back in 1998.
That doesn't mean it will suck, i will buy it and enjoy it either way.

I think part of the delay is because Valve want this game to be just that, the greatest FPS ever, worthy of the name Half-Life.
And the fans expect this, they seem to think that having the same succes with HL2 as with HL1 is actually possible.

The chances of it reaching this...or even surpassing that are just small, thats all im saying.

If anyone can however pull it off it's them, but i'm not going to moan if it's just not as great as HL1 was.

A little sceptisism might make this game a little bit more enjoyable once it does come out.
Because hyping it to no end and building your expectations to unknown levels will end up making you feel dissapointed.

The main reason for the delay probably wasn't the hack, it wasn't because they couldn't ship the game because of unresolved bugs or simple fill ins like maps or AI, it was because they just weren't happy with the game they had created up to that point.

The game they were thinking of releasing back in september '03 is probably not even close to what there aiming for now.

They succumbed to there own (and the fans) expectations. There not going to be happy unless they reach that creative level they want the game to be at.
And it's going to take however long they feel it needs and that could be a very long time still.

It's like a artist thats working on a masterpiece but rips up the painting because one tiny thing just wasn't to there liking or one little thing was still missing.

When will the point come when Valve will call it a day and just release it?
Gabe is probably laying awake at night wondering if it really is all there if this is all they could do and create, Gabe said the one thing they we're upset about is that they wanted to add so much to hl1 that just wasn't in the game, they want to avoid this with hl2 but when does the creativity end, when do you actually finish that creative process that spans 6 years??

Can you imagine the burden these guys at Valve are under? They just can't call it quits, there never going to be happy with the game there just to damn ambitious for there own good.And the fans are just pushing them on and on and on while they will NEVER get the same succes as with HL1 forget it! The chances of it beeing just as good are just to damn small.
