As an ordinary gamer who thoroughly enjoyed Half-Life, actually I was blown away by it, like many others. It was the "First" FPS I played, although I was long time gamer, and loved adventure games, hate Quake and its clone. Half-Life changed it for me, I have enjoyed many FPS after it, and to be honest I was not waiting for Half-Life 2
Then came the announcement, and like everyone I was part of the hype, searching web for any news regarding Half Life 2, downloading countless movies. It was different from Half Life, I didn't know about Half Life till it was released, so quite different experience.
Before 30th September, delay was announced, it was not a problem for me, and I am sure almost everyone who is playing games from last 10 years or so, this always happens games get delayed, but ultimately they are released so at least for me it was normal, because of the hope that one day I will be able to play Half Life 2.
Then this whole mess of theft started, beta and other stupidity. This is what that got me worried. I love Half Life. I love Gordon Freeman. I treasure the moments when I first played Half-Life, but my only worry is, will I ever be able to play Half Life 2? Will it be released? I don't care about the release date, it is not important, as long as it is going to be released, but all these recent events have put the game in great jeopardy. Can Valve at least assure that "Yes! Half Life 2 will be released sometime in the future, with all the features, and game play experience we promised"? Can they?
When I recall the announcement of Half Life 2, I still get thrilled. Just a single image, white background, with Gordon walking with crowbar. I still have it on my desktop, because for me it is really special, one of the best concept art I have ever seen. I don't know how long it will remain on my desktop, but one thing for sure; I will continue to wait for Half Life 2. I am hoping that one day Valve will speak...
