I somehow doubt this has been posted on before, so I searched, and found nothing about it.

I was thinking, if we shot or pushed a toilet paper roll (under the sink or on the dispenser) will it roll around and leave big long streaks of unravelled paper?

Same with paper napkins, paper dish towells, rags, cloths, bed sheets, socks, shoes, or any other meaningless items that were somehow put into the game...
 
... That's what I've always looked for in a game, realistic paper simulation... =/
 
probably not, although it would be cool

EDIT: if we shot the paper, wouldnt it just blow up?!?!? :eek: would the toilet paer gibs ragdoll?!?!!?!?

Can we flush the toilets!? Will they all make different sounds according to how much, er, "nutrients" are in them? :)
 
i should think so, if the took the time to model each bit of paper.
 
I'm sure this may be possible with Source, but why on earth would it be needed?

I'd say it's exclusion from the game would be a design choice, rather than a technical limitation...
 
are you guys joking? I guess if you wanted to crash and burn your computer when looking at the toilet paper roll... that'd be like an infinite polygon ragdoll you are talking about.

Kind of add onto the physics show offy thing..

A rolled up model wouldn't be too bad.. could be easily done, I don't see why it'd be infinite or too taxing

I guess if the shape of the roll was an octogon and only 3 rolls think.
 
I think it would be cool, just an eye pleaser.
Though ina game like HL2 I dont think itd make to much of a difference but a game like Sims, Sims 2 it would add some realistic points.

And if that toiletpaper roll would roll through a puddle of blood and become very wet, would that stain the paper and make it all sticky so that if you walk over it, you would realistically drag it with you, thereby leaving numerous Combine rolling on the floor with laughter

Magazines of toilet rolls + campus look-a-like map = hours of unadulterated fun! :afro:

You could also do a dualbarreld-toiletroll-launcher useing 2 toiletrolls that wrap around some one.

I don't think it's possible because the paper would need to be less than a unit (an inch by default) thick, and I don't think that's possbile in Hammer.
And the collision detecion would be buggy to say the least.

And can anyone tell me why I'm responding seriously to this? :hmph:

But to respond..seriousely: You could do a physics based "texure" (i.e. semi two dimensionally, reacting to wind and fluttering etc.) and when it lands you convert to a full texture superimposed on the floor texture. The bits in between could be done a la "poweline".

If you catch my drift.

ROFLMAO I really cracked my self up after reading this... Have we HL² fans desended to such a level that we are talking about toiletpaper simulation?

serious.. we have way to mutch time on our hands..
 
It is actually doable with a very simple model. Youcould code it to generate infinite paper!! Seriously! Problems would arise when trying to have the created paper seem like paper (i.e. float, tear, etc.)

Infinite TP is useful for wiping your ass too.
 
I dont think it could be done in source in its current state. nor do i think modern computers have the power to deal with what would be an imense requirement of polygons.

It could probably be cheated though a normal model toiletroll that leaves footsteps that look like roll sheets. summit like that.
 
Getting the toiletpaper wet should break it into smaller pieces (the paper is very fragile you know) so that wouldn't work very good :( Knocking a couple of zombies/Combines out cold with a Launcher would be very funny to watch though.

Somebody must mod this. Start immediately damnit ;)

Edit: Would be cool if someone could do a gun that shoot out PAPERPLANES that homes in on enemies (like the red/orange "flies" in HL1) & when the paper is empty, the brownish/grayish roll pop out like a casing :p
 
It would be cool if you could put the roll of toilet paper in some water and it would become a sticky mess... Throw them on the screens displaying Breen propaganda :p
 
A multiplayer game that involves you Tee Peeing your tree to 90%. It will take the world by storm.

Goodness. That's... novel.

Plus the paper roll would be a havok sim ragdoll object, so hammer units matter not.
