tons of 'beta's on the net, any of them real?

heh, i recently did a 'half life 2' search on shareaza and to my surprise i found a lot of 'half life 2 tech demo' files. wonder if its true? i started d/ling it, and supposedly, there was a thread about this once in these forums that talks about a leaked tech demo that actually WORKS. anyone know anything about this?

No. What those files are are most likely the movie of the tech demo level movie. Also, a fan created a map for Half-Life (1) that was meant to crudely simulate some of the things in the HL2 techdemo map. This was playable... but it wasn't a HL2 beta or anything like that. It did, however, get people very confused as to what it was when they saw it refferred to. Hope that helps.

by the way, the doom 3 alpha is real, i have a copy of it, its really interesting. as for the reason im trying to d/l half life 2, ^_^ i dont want the full version, what would be interesting is to check out the tech demo if it got leaked.

The "tech demo" is the latest Bink movie from Valve, it shows lighting effects while walking over rooftops in City 17 (19?). It also shows close ups of the sea food monster from the monster part of the movie shown at E3. Nice demo of what they've done using DX9.
