The Short Story Contest is back again. And this time it's topical.

This is not exactly Short Story Contest IV. But I thought it would be a funny idea to try and write a story on what's happening right goddamn now in the news. Instead of attempting to fulfil a clever and interesting topic, your mission is to produce disposeable but interesting literature surrounding current affairs. Hopefully these will be short, sharp, and plentiful. After all, there's always something going on in the world.

The Rules
- Entries must be over 1000 and under 16000 words long.
- Entries should be in prose form, though abberations are acceptable.
- Entries must be originally created for the Short Story Contest (tm)
- Contestants may write about anything they wish as long as it conforms to the stated topic.
- Contestants must have a forum account. Duh.
- Closing date is midnight 11th May.
- NO discussion in this thread, only entries.

The Topic

The subject this time around is: 'SWINE FLU'.

Once again the apocalypse is at hand. Humans will perish, ill-prepared for global pandemic. I want you to write about it - as a subject, as a background, whatever. And that doesn't mean apocalyptic or post-apocalyptic literature because I imagine everybody's bored of that, so if you actually do that it had better be interesting. Or just funny, like if you did 28 Days Later with pigs. I don't care! Don't listen to me! Listen to your heart, and to the whisper of approaching death.

You have until midnight on Sunday 11th May, or until the last human being stops breathing - whichever comes first. Two weeks may not seem like very long, but don't worry - this is to be disposeable, ephemeral. For are not all things transitory? Sic transit gloria, etc. Get on with it.
