About the Game

Behold Torchlight, a fresh new Action RPG franchise developed by Runic Games. Torchlight is being developed in Seattle by a veteran team composed of the designers and leads of projects like Diablo, Diablo II, Mythos, and Fate. Our team has spent many years honing and evolving this unique style of gameplay.

The adventure is set in the mining settlement of Torchlight, a boomtown founded on the discovery of rich veins of Ember - a rare and mysterious ore with the power to enchant or corrupt all that it contacts. This corruptive power may have dire consequences however, and players set out into the nearby mountains and depths below to discover the full extent of Ember’s influence on the civilizations that have come before.

Runic Games will initially release Torchlight as a standalone Single Player game, Torchlight will be released in the latter part of 2009 as a download or in box. Following the single player release, work will commence on a fully-featured MMO version.

Single Player Version

Players will choose from among three character classes, and venture from the safety of the town of Torchlight into randomly generated dungeon levels, with a huge variety of creepy monsters, endless variations of loot to find, and quests to complete. The endless randomization ensures a long-lived gameplay experience.

* Randomization - Our level layouts are randomly created, so each adventure is unique. Monsters, treasures, puzzles, and items are also different each time you embark on an adventure
* Easy, approachable interface - Torchlight is designed to be easy to play right from the beginning. The intuitive interface gives players easy access to a rich and varied world
* Retirement System - Once characters are sufficiently leveled up, they can “retire” and bestow specific benefits and perks to new characters
* Pets - Players will choose a pet to accompany them. Pets can level up along with the player, and will help in battle, carry items, and perform a variety of helpful services
* Character Classes - Players will create and customize a character from one of three classes available, and choose an animal companion. Through cosmetic choices, skill path decisions, and the treasures they acquire, each character will be custom-tailored and different
* Fishing - Players can take a break from the high-energy pace of adventuring to visit one of the fishing holes and relax and see what they can catch. Fish have interesting benefits for the player and pet, and other rewards can also be discovered
* Included Editor - Runic Games is embracing our modding community by including an editor so our players can create and design their own content

Not too sure what the conversion is for other areas in the world but $10 US sounds great!! can't wait to try it out

Best clickfest game since Diablo 2, rest assured. Well worth several times that price.

as an ex-moderator and respected member of this community, i endorse this product

well its all downloaded and ready to go. i heard its like a 15 hr game but can you add mods to this game??

It took about 20 hours for me to finish the main story, but once that's over there is an "endless dungeon" which is basically a limitless set of randomly generated levels. There are even random quests to do for it, so the game sort of goes on forever. The level cap is 100, and you'll only get to about 30 at the end of the story. The game is easily worth $10, and it's by far the best game of its type since Diablo 2. The only downside is no multiplayer, but there are mods.

I hate the Diablo games, so I'm not sure I'd like this. Clickfests are not my thing.

Looks tempting, I've never played such a game before.. but I have so many games left which need to be finished!

Bought it, will play as soon as I'm done with the soldier on TF2 :D

I just bought a laptop, and now I can download Steam games and play this shit at work too!! thank you Steam!! but question here is, can I have one Steam accounts on 2 computers as long as I'm only logged into one??

Yeah, just don't play one game on both computers at the same time.

sounds easy enough. now heres hoping for Steam Cloud to work with this game!

They just recently added Steam Cloud and achievements to it. In fact, that's the reason for this sale :)

The only problem that I have with Torchlight (so far) over something like Diablo 2, is in Diablo 2 you went in different locations. There was a whole world that you explored, and the quests felt relevant to that world.

Torchlight is a bit more like Diablo 1, where you just go down thousands of flights of stairs in one seemingly neverending dungeon. The quests just come down to turning in and picking up without reading, because it's certainly either picking something up or killing someone.

It's fun, and the fact that it has such full mod support is amazing, and given that I'm pretty sure it was made within a year(?) it's a pretty solid game, but I don't really find it all that... engaging. It is, of course, still worth $10.

Yeah, when playing this game I some times had the feeling 'Why couldn't they have worked a year longer and have made this a full price title?'. But that wasn't the point of this project I guess. Runic needs money to make their MMO and Torchlight will provide it. I am still amazed at how much value you get for such a low price.

You can play on both computers at once if one of them is in offline mode.

Torchlight: GotC

Yep, that's right, already calling it for game of the century. Shut up and buy it.

Price went back up to $20, and back down to $10.

Played through the story once (about 12 hours???), very enjoyable, well designed/built, definitely worth the $$$.

One of my favorite moments was walking through a portal into this area that had about 16 chests & they all mobbed me to death.

I will say it doesn't have infinite replay value, while there are many more things to kill, I can feel the "this is getting repetitive" feeling creeping in. Probably about 20 hours worth of gameplay value, which is not bad at all.

8.7/10

glad to hear that! maybe I'll finally play it tonight

Gonna install the demo, may purchase if its good :)

can someone clear this up for me....the minimum system requirements list 400mb hard-disk space...but the demo requires 840mb....so how much is it really for the full game....I've got rather limited space left, not to mention a shitty connection so it would be nice to know.

I just noticed that titan's quest go for the same price....anyone who played both? which do you prefer?

torchlight doesn't have any multiplayer component does it?

This $5 sale is kinda like a slap in the face after buying it for $10 last week...

It takes up as much space as the demo does. I'd pick Torchlight over Titan's.

No mp in torchlight but there's talks of an mmo sometime in the near future. Anyway, Torchlight is more cartoony, casual fun, mostly about loot and big numbers & crits. Titan's Quest is more serious in the sense that there's an actual story to the whole thing, and the graphics are really tight on level 3. They're both great games but TL has so much more potential with all the mods being created on a daily basis.

just gifted this to my friend, hope he likes it!
