Tortoise tends to get lumped into the postrock bunch. I can see why sortof, but really they do have their own little corner of sound. Whatever the hell they are, the're damn good at it. I can't really think of any artists that sound anything like them. Perhaps Jega Jazzist?

Nothing wrong with being post-rock. They're good stuff.
