Total Retribution Update

Total Retribution has just released a handful of media ranging from model renders to map screenshots. Here's a small sample, to view all of them, visit their website here.[br]

 
wow. This is looking like a mod im going to have to follow. weapon models look great. interface looks revolutionary. map looks well made and well textured. The webstie also contains a lot of good sketches and renders.
My only complaint is that some of the concept art is too reminiscent of counter-strike. A major problem in the modding community is an excess of CS or DoD clones and not to be rude, but its going to be very hard to create a mod of this genre that will surpass CS or DoD.
Don't get me wrong, your work looks great but I would slightly change my focus and design so Total Retribution doesn't appear to be a CS clone.

Their weaponmodels look astonishing.
 
Well guys, you've outdone yourself. It's even worse than I had first imagined (and that's quite an achievement). Did someone puke onto a canvas and scan it into Photoshop as the interface? As for the person who said it is "revolutionary", I guess that just goes to show that cocaine is a hell of a drug.

I dunno about a revolutionary interface but it certainly is somewhat different to the usual fare. Not that bad really.

Very nice rifle too.

If the texture on your weapons appear washed out as a renders, what can I expect from them in-game?

that either means that u secretly think it rocks. or that u spend too much time on the internet pulling stunts like this :LOL:

And what plagarism would that be? EVERYTHING is within legal guidelines so please bring anything that you may see as plagarism to my attention. Otherwise stop with you ranting and trolling.
 
@ theyoyoman, sorry this is not a mod you are interested in. Maybe as time goes on your feelings may change.

By the number of posts you have made here I can tell you made a acount here just to let us know (again) how you feel. :thumbs:

But the real reason im here is to say a quick Thank You to halflife2.net for there interest in the mod and a humble Hello to the HL/HL2 comunitys, One of the largest mod comunitys ever.

Its a honor to finaly be part of it. Here is a basic scanline render of a model/skin of mine that will be included in the mod. I hope you all like it.

Okay, I will share my concept storyline with you. It's about an elite multinational task force lead by John Clark, called RAINBOW. Basically, they... oh wait, this is the franchise that the Total Retribution team already ripped off, isn't it? I guess it's back to the drawing boards.

As far as plagiarism goes, I didn't have to look very hard. Lets take a look at the logo, shall we?

Wow, that oozes originality! Make sure you get a good lawyer before your release date, because I'm sure Ubisoft will have.

Very well said johnmedz, and thank you for the kind words and great input you have. We truly are not trying to rip any games style off BUT. To a large degree we feel if ther is something the devs feel was fun in the past with any FPS game we have played that element can not be overlooked as a possible feature.

Im of the angle if it aint broke... you shouldn't need to feel you got to re-invent it. I believe ther are "formulas" so to speak we all games. Small little details that make the difference.

The devs come from the R6 community... Were a realistic angle is more important to us then CS is.

From the game play perspective...

Their will be elements that we feel are properly conductive of game play characteristics we feel are desirable for this Total Conversion. Much though and energy has/is going into the feel we want. There were conflicting things we felt would happen if certain elements are mixed (lets say for bullet drop) we at this time decided not to include it in the "rets only/not first person view"

But bullet drop will be in our "Iron Sites" mode we plan to make. This game appeal to people that like various styles as possible with these types of things.

We really hope to take our time and do this right. And with the help of the fine members in our forums we know we are onto something good.... and with their input and support even better... they really make it worth it all really Great people!

no ideas are origional. theres prolly 20 zombie mods out there, 20 anti terrorism mods, 20 ww2 mods (well 2 mill might be more accurate).

first, you can't plagerize an idea, since you can't copyright an idea, look it up at www.copyright.gov. otherwise, i woulda made a killing cause i swear i thought of gta 3 before they did ;), but i would say at least a million others thought of it before me.

Its sad to see ya come in here and hate on amateurs. They might be huge rainbow 6 fans, and its influenced them, same as im a huge monster freak, and that influences my style, same as todd mcfarlane art and 90's comic book proportions ;)

the pistol model looks tight btw, looks like a kids gun tho with that neon green, like its designed to keep cops from killing ya.

As for everyone else thank you very much for the great comments on the artwork it really helps to keep us all motivated. We cant wait to show ya more.
 
1) That is Valves Logo which seems alot of mods are using.
2) Our logo may be similar but it is not the R6 Logo.
The concept Drawling which is on our main site is how that logo became to be. If others are using R6 logo and added Valves logo around the character that is a little out of TR hands...

As for John Clark and the rest of the rainbow six series.
This mod is based on that game. Not a copy of it. Which I have been quite clear about from the start.

Why you have to follow us around like a troll is beyond me.
Plus hiding behind a fake name is quite immature also.
I would imagine Neo would be a good guess.

Maybe you haven't read the story? The story has nothing to do with rainbow six nor is it about John Clark or anything.
So you tell me how we ripped anyone off?

It is quite sad that you tried this on hl2modcentral also and failed, and now you come here and try to spread rumours about a mod you no nothing about.

If anyone wants to really find out about the mod check out the site and forums. Read the REAL story as to why we are making this mod. As mike stated, the entire dev team is from the R6 community which has inspired us to create this mod.

Just like just like the 100's of other mod's being created.
I do not see other mod teams having to deal with people saying you ripped such and such off?

This mod is NOT a CS clone nor an RainBow six clone or a clone of anything for that matter. Check out the forums and contribute ideas if you wish.

My posts are the least of their worries. Who knows, they may actually take some of what I said on HL2 Mod Central (however harsh that may have been) onboard and spend time to improve their standard of work.

What should concern them is that they are using the Rainbow 6 franchise as a promotional (and conceptual) tool for their modification, yet they are attempting to defame Ubisoft and the latest Rainbow 6 title 'Lock Down' in the process. I thought it was a well known cliché not to bite the hand that feeds (and if they thought they had seen the worst of Ubisoft haulting their modifying efforts, then they're seriously mistaken).

They have the choice to take my comments as insults (yes, some most certainly are) or straight forward advice that no-one else is willing to say.

Well I wouldn't say we all hate CS I like it, it is just a different game style / play.

I haven't investigated nothing cause it is a waste quite frankly.
I would of assumed it was neo, it was a guess which I stated above.
So because you and a "few others" as you put it dislike the mod you can follow us around and post things about our mod and dev team while trying to dicredit us?

I think its perfectly ok to bring up the trade mark issue, but when you do it to try to embarass people, you end up only looking petty.

i doubt this topic will be allowed to go much further, its sad that people who are proud of the work they've done, and its nice work, have to put up with nagging bungholes.
 
The trade mark issue isn't really an issue. We logo is something we created, which is not breaking a copyright issue.
ALso poly you bring up great points.
I wonder if they are gonna go after all these other mods which are based on movies and other games also?


When did the internet get mod cops ?
 
Rainbow Six had a very good concept, and in fact, LucasArts is taking a cue from the RS series in their next game, Republic Commando.

How pathetic you are.... Its BASED on a existing series but its not a RIP idiot. Please, oh please, tell me a mod that is TOTALLY new... so NEW that there hasn't been ANY game's creator so smart to create something in the range of that mod. Every MOD is based on an existing game out there.... mofo.

This mod looks nice. I'll drop by your site and check out what it's about. I've read all the other posts so I know a little.

ya i just reported that last post from theyoyoman becuse of its offensive nature. Wer'e supposed to be debating total retribution. I hope yoyo gets a perm ban or creates his own mod from scratch. Then ill maybe listen to him.

Back on topic, after looking at the Total Retribution website, i do see a lot of gameplay differences from CSS. Perhaps i didnt look hard enough for those differences earlier.

I do, however, suggest a new skin or model for your character that so likely resembles a counter terrorist. I know that many counter-terrorism groups brandish that type of gear and facade but it has been overused and just doesnt spark the same type of hype, or excitement, that a more varied model would.
