Totally and unrepentantly badass music youtube videos

What's up with the piano with the cable that goes into the glasses guy's mouth?

Haven't watched the videos, but it's probably a talkbox.

It's a melodica. Where you are familiar with harmonicas:

...he's playing on a melodica:

Melodica.jpg

Root words: Harmony and Melody. The melodica is just a keyboard you blow air through. It's a joke instrument but some dudes just want to make the gimmick work.

Yeah, um, you're not supposed to use HTML embedding code on the forums.

You just paste the youtube video link.

I've always enjoyed this video. About 50 seconds in, Munaf duct tapes an ebow to his guitar while simultaneously playing tambourine. After finishing with the ebow, he then proceeds to go completely insane with the tambourine.

And to add to the melodica videos, these guys throw liberal amounts of it into most of their songs (but in a more indie pop context):

two videos

Wow that first guy has an awesome swing groove. I liked the pattern during the intro and outro funk feel of the tune, and a rather tasty selection of cymbal change when the tune arrives at the B section in the last 30 seconds of his performance.

That second one was a treat. I wish I could hear the rest of the tune. I don't know much about drumming, though it seems like he uses a wider arm motion than most other drummers I've seen. Still unblemished and very technically precise though.

It sounded like the end of the video kicked into the tune "Take the A Train."

edit: Here's a favorite drummer of mine. Jeff "Tain" Watts. Awesome. Player. Some of the most kickin drumming I've heard. I have this concert on DVD (audio sync is a little off in the first vid):

wowza, ive never seen the melodica outside of dub music before. me gusta.

Well that's just silly. How am I supposed to hear what he's saying without a mic?

Steve Howe has a few videos like these on YouTube. He is amazing and one of my favorite guitarists.

He makes it look so smooth... I've been playing guitar for about 2 1/2 years, and every time I start getting good at something, I watch something like this and realize I still suck.

Also... because I must:

steve howe? I havent heard anything from him since the anderson bruford wakeman and howe tour. also GTR

exactly how old are you? that was before my time

I'm one of those people that discovered classic rock in middle school, but I listen to a lot of other stuff, regardless of its age. Steve Howe is just one of the guitarists that influenced my playing a lot, mostly with Yes.

something more recent, for whatever reason. (because it's amazing)

Damn. Haven't paid much attention to this guy, but dude can rip out some crazy clean doubles/triplets/quads/trills. Also props for being one of the three drummers alive to not use a double kick, heh. :p

Reminded me a bit of another guy I haven't watched in a while. Probably one of my favourites, simply for how musically he can play without accompaniment. I really love drummers who can bring out the quality of the instrument without purely staying in the pocket, but without sounding like they're "just playing a solo" (look how fast I am lol).

Edit: By the way sorry about bringing my drum spergin' to your thread, jet. I'd get it out on an actual drummers board, but all they tend to do is wax pretentious about the "right" way to play or circle jerk over their new custom kits (**** them and their ****ing money I want one ;().

I like the Gavin vid you posted as a drumming video (also because that happens to be my favourite song of theirs), but he kind of overplays it a bit. Of course, it's a drumming festival, so that's kind of a given. :p

I like this one by him a bit better though, even if I prefer Porc. Tree as a band (skip ahead to about :40 for teh droums):
