Trespasser Beta

There's been a good bit of posts on this forum about Trespasser as it relates to Half-Life 2.

Before its release in 1998, there was a beta version of Trespasser that included the Pine Valley level which was not included in the retail release of the game.

We in the TresCom Community would be very interested in locating this beta version of Trespasser which we believe still exists... somewhere out there.

If you, or someone you know has a copy of this pre-release beta version of Trespasser or have any information concerning it, please let us know. Thanks!

I believe that all Beta versions of a game are... how you say... "illegal"?
o_O

Excuse you?
Umm.. I was asking a question... albite maybe sounding a bit like an ass, but never-the-less asking something.
I know it was released 10/31/1998. Is it abandonware now? If not, then it's still owned by Dreamworks Int., and thusly possetion of a Beta copy would be copyright infringement.
stfu, your gay WhiteZero!
Very mature. Congratulations.

How about instead of acting like a 12 year old, you actually give some info, since I obviously dont "know my stuff".

Good day.

We are not interested in doing anything illegal. First, we want to know if the beta still exists. If so, we would proceed in concordance with all applicable law.

Well, if you wanted to get a legal copy of the Beta, then a good start would be eMailing Dreamworks abut it (whom I believe are part of EA now). http://www.dreamworksgames.com/

Out of interest I did a quick scour over the net for the Beta, but it dosent seem to really be in circulation.

We've already tried that. Dreamworks nor EA will consider requests for Beta versions of Trespasser, nor any of their other games for that matter. If however, there is still a Beta version in existence by someone on the outside, it may then be a simple matter of just obtaining Dreamworks or EAs permission. Of course, we won't know that until we can first determine if there is a Beta version out there.

Agreed.
Well, I'll keep an eye out for it. However, for such an old (and under-rated) game, it will be extreemly hard to come across a Beta.

Some of you may recall the Unreal1 Beta (and Alpha for that matter). This Beta contained a huge desert-like hub-level connecting several levels, including 1 or 2 that didn't make it into the final. Very interesting stuff!!

Haha, I can imagine people dieing to play the Half-Life 2 "beta" five years from now. It's hard to find even now, image 5 years from now. I still have it and I'm keeping it. :D Too bad I have the patched one, my E3 levels won't work.

Oh and so nobody gets mad at me for having an "illegal" file, I legitamately paid for the final version of HL2 off of steam. I bought the silver. It's okay to keep a little piece of nostalgia on my PC as long as I'm a paying customer.

BTW, I'm interested in playing this Tresspasser game, I want to see why everyone criticizes it for it's physics system.

is this the game people were saying had retarded physics in a thread a while back?

I guess the answer would be "yes" it is the same game, but the physics are far from retarded.

Trespasser was just a very ambitious project that could not deliver all it promised, and was put on retail shelves at least a year before it was ready. The only way to guage it is to play the demo for yourself. Remember though, this game came out back in 1998, and absolute eternity ago as far as pc gaming is concerned.

I played it and I have to say that despite its suckiness and the worst voice acting ever, I was impressed with the physics. For a game that came out 6 years ago, it is really impressive technologically. The barrels had a shine effect on them when the light hit them and the ragdolls were nice. The physics were just really impressive. I bet that physics really hyped people back then and once they saw how it was implemented, it may have soured them on the idea. Also, the hand thing is a cool idea, but often times the gun would be aimed at some ridiculous angle or position. I also think it's stupid how the lady counts the bullets as the gun fires.

Overall, it was very ambitious for 1998. You have to give credit where credit is due.

Wow, EA owns dreamworks, is it just the games division or the whole dreamworks.
