Played a bit last night and I thought it was a lot of fun. I'm not all that impressed with the weapons but the vehicles and ski/jetting was lots of fun. A bit laggy but that might be due to few servers

the beta is still open, you can get a beta key from fileplanet

I'm in it, and I like it alot.

The graphics are very good and realistic, everything has a certain "glow" or shinyness, and it looks great in action. The jetpack is very well balanced between amount of flight time and speed, it's fun shooting someone across the map 30 metres above the ground!

My favourite map is the Winter Glacier thingie, I love running around in the vast areas around the bases,
sniping people and shooting them with the disc-thrower weapon.

What classes and weapons do you prefer?
I usually stick to the light class, simply because it looks better and i prefer speed and agility. I like the shotgun and the chaingun the most, apart from the disc-thrower.

I usually play light to heavy as I dont have that much experience playing the game ...some veteran players in the beta hand me my head on a platter. I too like the disk thrower thingy but I'm still trying to get the hang of it. The shotgun and the mortar are cool. Skiing is just awesome, it's a blast to get top speeds and jump over obstacles

I really like that flying ...ummm ball looking thing and the jeep is fun

There is a thread somewhere around here. My final thoughts after a few days is that I'll rather play CS and I dont even like CS.

The graphics engine is neat, its definetly a jump up from T2... But gameplay is just lower than caveman level. I dont even find any thrill in soaring high with my jetpacks, that's how utterly dull it is.

Secondly, the netcode is probably WORSE than in T2. 32 players, bah... That's just weak... Most of the servers dont even max out, they use around 20, showing that its difficult to handle as they still lag.

Yes you definatly need a server that pings sub 100 to actually be able to play.

It's (unfortunately) no Tribes 2, but I still enjoy myself a little. The tribes feel just isn't there, really.

I haven't really played it much against other people, but I've had a lot of fun. We should all play together.
Skiiing is sucha fun way to get around...It wouldnt surprise me if they did a machinema sport thing whcih they have done with other games :) When you get good at it, you can really get some speed up and navigate the maps really well.

It doesn't feel like Tribes 1 or 2, but it's still pretty entertaining

*Trys not to flame....staff member.. flame bad*

The tribes feel you say? You never played tribes 1 did you, thats got the tribes feel, and V feels just like that, its a change for the better from 2.

You go play 1 now, download it from fileplanet :p.

I have it, and it's poop. Tribes 2 is much better.

I've played both, for your information. It's probably the Unreal engine, but it just doesn't feel the same.

as someone who hasnt played tribes 1 or 2 ...what makes them better? What's missing from Tribes V that sets it apart from tribes 1 and 2?

I didn't like it, too much like tribes 1 and not enough like tribes 2. This game is all about offense, if you are on defense your only objective is to slow down the enemy flag cappers. If you are on offense all you do is cap the flag as fast as you can...sounds like a lot of fun. I think tribes 2 did it way better with a stronger defense, which makes it so both have a role.

I think it's pretty fun. It's not spectacular, but that could be attributed to the fact that DX9.0c seems to cause my computer to crash due to a hardware conflict after 15 mins of play. So it's pretty difficult for me to really get into the game, and get a really good feel for the weapons, teamplay and so forth when I have to wait five minutes between interrupted sessions.

The graphics engine runs surprisingly well, even on my 8500LE. Medium details at 1024*768*32, with little to no slowdown. The skiing is much more fluid than in Tribes 2, and the jetpack seems better (though I'd still prefer if it had more thrust to it). The weapons are a lot more interesting to look at, especially the Spinfuzor and sniper rifle.

So, I would get this game if it didn't make my computer crash so much, and if I had enough money to buy this plus the ten or twelve other games that I'm looking forward to.

I downloaded tribes and tribes 2 for free (legally off fileplanet). I uninstalled one as i thought it was way too old to enjoy (teh gameplay was good but it felt dated) although i quite liked two, it was much the same but with cooler stuff, more veichles and better graphics. i didnt play it much though- there was something i didnt like about it. i think its that the cambat i found average, and the veichles didnt have that little spark of teamwork.

I had played planetside earlier, and dispite cancellign my sibscription i saw a great simerlarity... just i liked planetside better. in planetside i had been a galaxy pilot / hacker, and i loved it- the way that your driving affected your team, and that you played a vital role in getting to your destination, as well as lots of heroics. This is what i expected out of tribes 2- i wanted it to be more epic, like BF1942, but i didnt quite like the way it allways ended in small skirmishes. granted i dint play it much, but i wasnt too keen on it.

Tribes vengence, however- i find a lot more fun. though i am yet to know if i am able to (and i probally wont) pilot a huge spacecraft like in PS, i love the way the battles have become smaller to support the skirmishes. and the big ones sdont quite feel as big- maybe its because you get super tanks with a jump feature.

IMO T:V is rather alike to UT2k4, but its not as good. it will probally be more fun for a while but i prefer UT2k4, despite the lack of jetpacks and jumping tanks.

:O Found a 40 player server! with an OK ping!!!!

I personally like it, its a good blend of the two games. I'm glad that it leans more to the tribes one side, tribes 2 became just a everyone rush and get vehicles game

You obviously never played the game competativly(or with decent people), vehicles are easy to take down and are never a problem. With good players the only use for vehicles is to go way up high and try to spam the flag and then have a capper come in or use the fast one to jump out of grab the flag and get back in.

Imo T3 is a bith meh, reminds me too much of Unreal 2 XMP, and the weapons suck too imo. Or then it's just me who can't use em :/
