Hey.
I'd just like to say that myself and a small team are starting work on bringing Perfect Dark to HL2.

Basically we are taking the weapons, maps, models and modes and adding them to HL2, as well as keeping the gameplay how it was.

It should be noted that we will be tweaking certain aspects of the game to improve it or to come to terms with the PC enviroment. This will be noticed in that Maps will tweaked with the ability to Jump kept in mind, and some weapon modes will be changed, like the Sniper Rifles secondary function being "Crouch while zoomed", something that was helpful for consoles but really is uniportant in PC games (due to there being a single crouch key).

It also should be taken into concideration that maybe not ALL maps will be remade, or perhaps some will be given a complete overhall. If a map is deemed completely rediculous or unenjoyable we will either cut it out or take the general concept and rework it to make it playable.

Player model may be quite different too. Unless we can make Source support interchangable heads on torso's then we will be sticking with singular models, something I talk more about another time.

Oh, and there will be a few surprises (some added content for the people).

We arnt focused on finding others just now to work with us, as we are still organising a few things (although some renders arnt far away). However, if anyone is interested in perhaps providing artwork, or any job, they can give me a PM or Email and ask about it. Whilst most things are already there for reference, promotional artwork is always welcome and we'd be interested in having someone do that.

For those who plan to jump on the "Your ripping someone off" wagon, dont. We are completely aware we didnt create Perfect Dark or its content. This is not an attempt to rip off, but provide a Tribute to what we believe is one of the most enjoyable FPS Multiplayers ever created (even though it was console). We feel the PC community diserves to have the same experiance many consolers had, and that is why we are doing this.

Just thought I'd give a little better description on each area and what to expect:

Guns:
- Return of all original weapons, unless they are found useless.
- Removal/Replacing of some secondary modes.
- Ammo and Damage tweaks.
- Spanking new textures and effects (you should see what we have install for the Callipso, Farsight and Phoenix).
- HighPoly gun models.
- New weaponry.
- A certain HL2 weapon we felt was just too fun to loose.

Maps:
- Return of all original maps including the Goldeneye remakes, unless the are found unejoyable.
- Tweaking of maps to play well for quicker jumps/crouching.
- Maps tweaked to keep in mind the increased player count.
- "Select Weapons For Map" option to return.
- High-res map textures.
- More atmosphere to the maps (such as the inclusion of more objects that can be manipulated).
- New maps, some based on the PD Single Player, some based on other games, and others of complete original creation.

Sound:
- Selected original songs from PD will be reworked with real guitar, bass and keyboard behind them.
- Not all music tracks will return.
- Possibly some new tracks.
- New higher quality weapon sounds.
- Basically, new sounds for everything.

Player:
- Plenty of player models to pick from, all based on the original heads and torsos avaliable (custom head/torso isnt likely to be avaliable). A head and body from the original that looks good together will become one complete model. Eventually a competition will be run in which the winners will be able to select the head and body they liked the most to be modeled into the game and to be named after them.
- Hopefully return of player profiles.
- Player speeds to remain the same as original.

Gameplay:
- Original feel and speed. This will not turn into Quake3 or Counter-Strike, so fear not.
- Original game-mode to return.
- Tweaking of game-modes (such as case/flag locations).
- New game-modes.

For those that fear our tweaking will ruin weapons or maps, fear not. Weapon tweaking will only be done to smooth out some edges, and to make sure no weapon is 100% unbalanced in comparison to every other gun.
Map tweaks will not be something to worry about as favourite "areas" are certain to stay, just look much prettier

PS: I am fully aware another team is doing this as well, making Perfect Dark: Source. However, our team had begun conciderably before we were aware of another team doing so, and its quite possible that both teams have started at the same time. I do wish the others luck.

Perfect Dark was one of those games that dominated the world during its time. The multiplayer was genius with the slow-motion pickups, it really escalating the game play. The disarming was also a stroke of sheer genius. Personally all games should have a disarming function. I'm willing to scrap my project to get this one going. The only problem I foresee is that of IP's (Intellectual Properties). The Perfect Dark franchise is essentially Microsoft's as Rare was picked up by them. And we all know M$ won't allow such projects to exist unless they are making bank. If you can somehow get passed that, then man I'll jump on your ship and help get this game into Half-Life 2 gamers' hands.

I think that joining would be a good idea...

since having two mods doing the same thing with the same mapper is sort of silly.

Our main problem is intellectual property - there's a hefty chance that we'll get shut down before we even start. We've suggested alternatives on our forums

www.taintedasylum.net/pds (they're a bit laggy this morning, dunno why)

Audiophile, I have added you to MSN, perhaps we can discuss this more there.

I think you guys should just take the people I've gathered and blend into one mod. We're all after the same goal here, so let's do it. Of course I won't have any part of the team, but hey, if I get to see my dream, then I'll do what I can. What do you think Eatchildren? Blend together and we'll stick with PD:Source mod title?
