Trine is essentially a 2D platformer that allows the player to create and destroy objects in order to solve puzzles and defeat challenges as they battle to save their kingdom from evil. You'll be able to play as an object-creating wizard, swift and agile thief, and a destructive warrior, swapping characters on the fly to fit the situation. Need a ramp? Use the wizard to create one. Barrier in your way? The warrior can bash right through it.
So this looks pretty awesome. Hopefully it comes to Steam.

Nice!! I was going to make a thread on this yesterday when I saw it too because it looks AWESOME. This is the style that any new Metroid or Castlevania NEEDS to adopt. The visuals are gorgeous, the soundtrack is beautiful, and the gameplay looks fun and well thought-out. I cannot wait for this. Trine now even tops Fat Princess and Crash Commando for my most wanted PSN game. Good times.

Watch the much better-looking HD version here.

**** me that looks great. 2d gameplay ftw!

That game looks fun, challenging, and beautiful. I hope it lives up to the presentation of the trailer.

I love that some developers are starting to bring 2D platforming back. It's about damn time!

Totally.

It's gone full circle - these days i'm finding 3d games more than a little tired and samey, yet the recent 2d stuff (Lost Winds, Bionic Commando, Braid etc) has been a breath of fresh air. Now we just need a 2d Metroid.

I agree with you Warbie, I really loved both Braid and Bionic Commando. This looks like it could be a GREAT game, as long as it lives up to the trailer. I really wish it would come out on Live Arcade though :(

Loved the Lost Vikings, maybe I'll give this a PSN download when the time comes. This looks really nice.

Wait, is this coop now? I thought it was single player and you switched between the characters.

Looks great, either way.

Not seen this before but it looks awesome! :D coop looks awesome too. Any ideas on a release date?

That looks sweet as hell, hopefully there's a demo.

PC Demo is available now. I am downloading now and will comment afterward. I am super-excited for it though. :bounce:

Here.

Wow. This is easily the most amazing looking 2D/3D platformer I have ever played...EVER!! I also love how the characters complement each other and you can switch on the fly to take care of whatever obstacle(s) you may run into. Gorgeous, plays great, sounds great. This is a no-brainer buy for me when it comes out. I hope you will all feel the same. :)

The demo crashes on me when I try to levitate things with the wizard. :( Probably because I'm using an ATI card, which is not PhysX compatible.

Edit: Messed with some settings and got it to work. Exactly as fun as I was expecting it to be. Very generous for a demo as well.

Ah, speaking of price...I just saw this pop up:

Following the release of an impressive demo for Frozenbyte's very attractive action-platformer Trine, the PC version is now available for preorder on Steam.

Trine will cost $30 on the service--as opposed to the reported $40 retail pricetag--and will include a free copy of Frozenbyte's co-op, run-and-gun shooter Shadowgrounds as a preorder bonus.

A PlayStation 3 version of the title is expected to be released in weeks, while Atlus is planning to bring the downloadable game to Xbox 360 later this year.

As for the release date of the PC version, publisher Nobilis yesterday announced a July 3 release date, though some retailers are still listing the European retail version for July 10. Shacknews has contacted Nobilis and Frozenbyte for comment on the confusion.

Very interesting about the price and the 360 inclusion. Makes perfect sense though as it always seemed weird that this would be PS3/PC only. Recoup that dev money guys!!

$30 on Steam is just dandy with me. $40 seems to be pushing it a little, but it looks and plays that great that I would get it anyway, if nothing else to support such brilliant and beautiful development. It will be VERY interesting to see how the pricing works for PSN/XBLA because I cannot imagine a game like this actually selling for that much and doing well, but I guess we'll see....

I'm blown away. My expectations were pretty high but the demo has exceeded them completely. Trine is glorious.

Looks like I'll be getting it on Steam then. Seems like it would play better on the PC anyways.

I'm torn. Easier aiming with a mouse, but i'd much prefer a pad for moving and jumping around. Either way its going to be a great fun :)

Moving around is fine for me on PC, plus it saves me $10.

Come on guys - awesome, original game on the PC (I don't get to say that often ;)) and where's the love??

Just played the demo and was really surprised. Thief and Wizard are pretty fun to play. Thief for jumping around on your zip line, and some of the great kills you can get as a wizard.

Reminds me a little of Shadow Complex. Any word on when they plan to release it on XBLA? This would probably be the only XBLA game that I would buy for $30.

Price on PSN is $20. Makes A LOT more sense. $40 on the PSN is suicide.

By now, you're probably familiar with the ambitious, multiplayer puzzle-platformer, Trine. Shacknews is reporting that the upcoming PC version of the game will have an "official" price of $40, with Steam pre-orders available for a discounted $30. (Check out a downloadable demo at BigDownload.) Those who want to experience Trine in the most affordable way possible will want to download the PSN version of the game, priced at $20.

Obviously, that's a rather high price point for a downloadable game. However, developer Frozenbyte says the high production values merit the sticker tag. "Trine is far from a game created by a solo hero developer (we have over 20 employees and Trine has contributions from a double amount of people) ... we are very confident that we can deliver a full retail experience with Trine."

Our early impressions of the game suggest Frozenbyte is right. We'd much rather buy this than, say, the equally priced Watchmen: The End is Nigh. While an official PSN date isn't set, the publisher is expecting a July release. An Xbox 360 version of the game, which will support online co-op (a feature not included in the initial PC or PSN releases), is also in the works.

I'd like to try this out but definitely PSN for me. Double price on pc? **** off.

Yeah, I know. At least the Steam preorder is only $30. That's what I did. I may even get the PSN version too just to play on the big TV downstairs. :E

Sorry about the double post here, but they were far enough apart I think...

...anyway, Trine is out on PC today. PSN version comes either today or next Thursday. Steam will unlock it at 9am (PST).

//edit - oh my, the full game is even better than the excellent demo suggested. So far this is the perfect meeting of platformer and having fun with physics. Everyone go buy - it's awesome.

OMG. I second this completely. It just kills me to think of a new Castlevania this good or a new Metroid because this is the way 2D/3D should be done. Respect.
