Troika Games, RPG developer of Arcanum, Temple of Elemental Evil and Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines, appears to be closing its doors. The source for this is an email about the liquidation sale of their office furniture. You can read more about it here, here and here.

The mail was confirmed to be true by a former employee, but it has not been officially confirmed by a press release of any kind as yet, though I'm sure it will be along somewhere in the next few days. Most employees were already layed off about a month ago and the management had been considering the options since then.

This sucks. Their games, though not without problems (bugs), were good and well designed RPGs, and not many companies are making those anymore. I hope the former employees will find a new home where they can continue making great RPGs or other games.

I am le sad ;(

Aww :(

They were quite awesome. Oh well, another one bite's the dust.

I'm kind of holding on to the sliver of hope of the email being a sick joke and the employee not knowing more than anyone else.

I only played Bloodlines, but it was great. That's a shame.

guys, just to let you know, this is still a rumour, and also a former employee did NOT say it was closing, some poster on a forum "supposedly" got confirmation that their closing. So topic poster, it was NOT confirmed by any employees... :|

It looks like this is the chance for Valve to recruit, after all, members of Troika have experiance with source after masquarade

They could just be moving offices are something. I'm gonna wait for the press release on this one.

Yeah, it was Zaphod from Mapcore.

But Mapcore's down right now, so as far as I know, there's no actual information on this matter.

It's been confirmed again, this time by the Bloodlines lead programmer (Andrew Meggs). I'll quote it here for ease of reading:

Everyone's talking about what the ex-Troika people are going to do. The reality is that for the past several months Troika has been on a skeleton crew. The real layoffs happened in two waves at the start and end of November, and a lot of people have already moved on. I know of ex-Troika people working for all of these companies:

Activision
Day One Studios
Mythic Entertainment
Obsidian Entertainment
Point of View (2)
Seven Studios (2)
Sony (2)
Supervillains (2)
Swinging Ape
Tiger Hare (2+)
Turtle Rock
Treyarch

So Troika has pretty much spread out to a lot of different companies. What the founders are doing or going to do and what is going to happen to Troika's assets no one knows yet.

I expect there will be more news later on, though we'll probably never know what exactly went wrong.

maybe, but the main programmer.. forgot his name... has said that meggs message wasnt supposed to get out, even check gamespot...

Yeah I just noticed, the article is here on gamespot.
The only interesting thing really left to announce is what those last couple of main people are doing etc. Anyway, we'll see in a week or so.

No more arcanum games??? DAMN DAMN DAMN, this is the same day I find out about no more thief or DX games as well..

What a crappy day
