True Grit, best movie of 2010

I really want to see this but it doesn't come out here in Australia until the 20th.

Saw it the other night stoned out of my mind. I was blown away.

I really want to see this.
I love me some Westerns.

Also, Brolin makes everything just that much more awesome.

It was pretty good, nothing spectacular really. It suffers from the Hollywood trend of putting a ridiculous amount of comic relief in for no reason. The whole
MATTY FELL INTO A CAVE AND GOT BIT BY A SNAKE
bit just didn't work for me, seemed to come out of no where and was pointless. I would say it's pretty good as a western, but it really doesn't meet my Cohen bro expectations. Sort of like B.A.R.

And Brolin gets very little screen time.

Trailer looks amazing, this looks like a must-see.

Mr. Cockburn?

whatchu want guurl? *puts skittles into mouth*

I was expecting more from the ending. They seemed to rap everything up in about 5 minutes. Other than that it was a pretty solid movie.

You are aware this is a remake of a John Wayne movie right? That is itself based on a book (which the Coen brothers were apparently more true to than the original movie was)?

I thought it was a pretty excellent movie. I watched the original about a week before I saw this in theaters and I'd recommend doing so. I liked this one more (understandably).

Well aware, I come from a family of western fans. I plan on watching/reading it soon, but I don't think that'll change my mind. The problems might be the book's fault, but that doesn't make them not problems.

That girl is 14. She seemed young in the movie but in that interview (I watched only about 60 seconds of it) she seems way older than 14. Kind of weird.

Yeah, she seems a lot older/more mature based on how she speaks. She was phenomenal in the movie and I'm stumped as to why she's in the running for best supporting actress instead of best actress.

honestly I got the opposite impression she could barely speak one full sentence that was coherent.
dunno maybe that's just how people speak these days...

anyone else catch the irony freight train that just blasted through this thread at top speed? i sure did

Heh, it's pretty hard to miss.

Yeah, but she was telling long winded life stories and appeared to be talking to and with a third person off camera, it's to be expected. I know she still sounds like a young girl, but the way she presents herself seems far older. Trust me, I've spent a lot of time around tweens.

Probably because that way she might stand a chance of winning one. Natalie Portman Looks like a certainly for BA after her performance in Black Swan tbh.

Sometimes actors/actresses submit their acting reels into consideration for two categories to give themselves the best shot at being nominated. At other times, the decision is put into the hands of their management (agents/agency/publicist/manager yada yada).

I'd love to see Jennifer Lawrence get nominated for Best Actress in Winter's Bone, but I don't think anyone wants to go up against Natalie Portman this year.

Well. I thought it was...okish. Not up there with the best work they've done (TBL, Millers Crossing, NCFOM, Fargo) but not the worst either (BAR, TMWWT, TLK). The Girl was good in it, but there needed to be more sense to some of the moments.

Oh my, I never realized that the Coen Bros did The Ladykillers. That movie was ****ing terrible. I didn't care much for BAR, but it's in a whole other league.

Cant make up my mind weather or not Jeff was better in this or in the new Tron.

It's definitely True Grit. It has nothing to do with Jeff. You can only do so much with The Dude copy/pasted into a sci-fi blockbuster. The writing was balls.

I thought Burn After Reading was terrible initially, but every subsequent time I've seen it I respected it more and now after maybe 5 viewings I actually think it's a pretty good movie. I don't enjoy watching it all that much at this point but I have grown to respect what they were trying to do with it.

I thought Jeff Bridges destroyed this role. I also kind of like that he was playing the character from the book, rather than just trying to be John Wayne.
