I have made a decision to pay $30 less for the silver edition. Who wants stickers anyways? Anyways I want my parents to buy me the package. They are getting tired of video game boxes and game cds! :D  But their is 1 problem. They feel weird for buying something that has not come out yet (hl2). I said when it does I will automatically get it. And they also don't like the idea of a "tiny game company" handling their credit card #. I said Valve is like Microsoft and the credit # is handled by the credit card company. We have bought stuff off the internet for a couple of times. Can you please help me out?

If they're reading:

I've done it before, it's all very legit. :) No worries. Valve can be trusted.

Get older and leave home. Make your own money and buy your own stuff. Don't be a spoiled kid. And tell them that this really is the last game... in a while :E

I'm paying $40 for an f'n hat and a box.

I dont like it, but damnit, I'm a fan.

But I'm very upset with VALVe right now.

Just tell your parents that its for CS:S, which WILL be available tomorrow.

heh theyre just making u sweat. Theyll do it just use ur big bambi eyes to get what u want :)

Tell them that all the cool people are getting it through Steam.

If they are reading:
Valve will keep your credit card very safe. They are the company who made the one of the best selling computer games of all time, not a small company.

All your information will be kept secret and they will not send you stuff in the mail. Go for it!

Yeah I'm probably gonna get a job soon. My mom says she likes ur attitude (Yellonet) and wants her son to follow your advice! :dozey:

Hello Parents,
What I am now about to say might come as a shoch to you, but is the truth.
Valve is a corrput no-life, and overall cheating company! If i where you I would remove your childr you the computer immidiately and seek help, for his brain might have suffered from Valvs brainwash!!!!!!!

And now to the more serious part.

Think of it this way
You shouldn't be worrying about valve handling your CC info. they would get in a lot of trouble if anything went wrong. No you should be afraid of the hackers and michiefers trying to steal your information.
However, you are in such a fortunate situation, that it is impossible, since it is a standalone application, which would require a hacker to monitor your machine and the chances are to say the least, very slim.

The thing about something that ha snot come out yet. Indeed it is out. Your son has already downloaded it onto his computer. All he needs to do is buy it and it will be de-crypted. Activated if you will.

Valve is a game company, making games. They are one of the bigger production companies out there, and by all means do not need anymore money... they're already milionaires.

Think of the stickers man!!! The stickers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Silver edition here I come.

They're reading this? Uh oh, I hope I can come up with something smart.

Everything will be just dandy! If it's good enough for me, it's good enough for you!

Tell them that preordering it now is like booking a table at a resteraunt. Tell them its more secure than ordering over the phone (it is easily).
Show them the Steampowered website and Valve's website, and show them this BBC news article
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/3604480.stm
And already trustable name should push them in the right direction.

I don't know about you guys but I'm getting the gold version. I want that effing box and that effing poster, eff.

If he doesn't get it through Steam he won't get to play CS:S until HL2 (and that's a long time!). He'll be scarred for life!

The company founders are from Microsoft.

Why not just be rich like me? I just dont hav a credit card but I can wait a lil extra.
Some people don't have very good jobs, or are not born into richness. And because you have no credit card, I'm assuming your a spoiled little brat who gets everything free from his parents. Pointless post.

Just let mommy know who her REAL DADDY is. ;) Then she will listen and obey.

this is the company that had their source code hacked ;)

I'm buying it through steam anyway

If your the parents of the guy who made this post. It's the year 2004, we buy stuff on the net now.

As opposed to getting him a video game which he'll play alone at home for weeks on end ignoring friends and school? I think his social life isn't the greatest concern ;)

Get a job and buy it yourself.

Get a job and buy it yourself.

dont ASK your parents to buy it for you ... freaking make some money and buy it yourself ... or just get your parents to buy it with their credit card adn pay them back with YOUR MONEY in cash ...

Why don't you wait until it's out and then just buy it?!

It's not going to kill you if you have the files preloaded on your hard drive anyways.

Salutations!

I am a 7 year old, homeless nigerian child.

I have no arms, and only one leg. My Family has been killed in a civial war that still rages on. I lost my leg when I stepped on a land mine, so I had to ask a man at the internet shop to help me type this.

I was given $100 by a nice man from Australia to help my poverty. But I decided to spend it on buying a copy of Half-Life 2 Collectors Edition online, because I once saw a picture of the game in a magazine when I was scavenging through the local tip trying to find some scraps of food.

The people at valve lied to me, and stole my money.

I have been trying to get a lawyer, my country is paying for one and needs a bank account to deposit the money into so we can pay the american lawyer to sue valve.

please help.

Also, My uncle sells penis enlargement pills, if your interested.

hahaha seriously...

out of the hundreds of thousands of people who buy this game online, I would be genuinely suprised if anyone did not get thier moneys worth.

Go for it parents!

Valve couldnt keep their source code secure. Years of work worth millions of dollars was leaked all over the internet. What makes you so sure they can keep hundreds of thousands of credit card numbers secure.

Oh shut up already people! Your going to get him in trouble :)
But seriously, parents, your CC number will be safe.

Hey parents :)

Have mercy on your son, he's gonna die if you don't buy him hl2 ;)

no seriously though, It's pretty safe to buy off steam. Actually buying from a regular shop might be more risky than buying online.
How do you know the cashier won't steal your number?
In the online process however, the data is encrypted in a format that is impossible to decrypt, and in the end it's processed by machines, (I think), pretty much no humans involved. (somebody correct me if I'm wrong plz)
The only serious risk is if somebody has installed a keylogger virus on your PC, (which is quite unlikely, unless a skilled hacker saw this post and decided to give it a try ;) )but if that was the case then you should just shut off the computer because this guy can steal all your passwords and read you email and stuff.

I don't think Valve keeps the CreditCard numbers in a database or anything, I believe they don't even do the validation themselves .. it's done by a trusted third party (or something :/)
so basically, it's not likely that somebody can get your creditcard number by hacking valve or anyone else.

so yeah, buy it and don't worry.

oh and, as for buying a game that isn't out, well, the game is already on your computer's hard disk, but it's encrypted, think about it like a pre-order, the only thing is, your beloved son (oooh .. how beloved he is!! ) can start playing the game right away, the moment it's released! no wait .. no shipping .. nothing to downlaod (well maybe a very small download?).
