I haven't read all posts, so I don't know if this is posted before. But this works sometimes for me:

"All my friends is buying this way"

They don't want to be bad parents :)

Paying through Steam: SAFE? Please share your experiences

Nobody had any troubles, and the guys who post at the steampowered forums (=Valve's forum) are a bunch of whiny 14 year olds (no offense to the non-whiny 14 year olds). Believe me if anything had gone wrong with previous releases, they would be all over it.

About the game not being released right away:

->they are legally bound to wait until the retailers caught up and put the game on the shelves before they are allowed to release it. This is because it's a sequel. They already had a contract on the Halflife brand with the publisher, which they made before steam existed, years ago. This is not the case with counterstrike. That's why CS is being released through steam (wich is a delivery system entirely owned by Valve, cutting out the publisher completely), and HL2 has to wait for the regular ways of distribution to catch up.

The game is done. There are already reviews in several magazines, they got to play the entire game already.

Typical "mom&dad" reply:

If you friends jump off a cliff would you do it too?

Thanks guys! I posted this on the Steam forums actually and got replies saying that "your too young to be playing a M rated game" to "get your own money". Fortunately the good people at hl2.net are much smarter and had fun in this post! :naughty: My mom thinks you guys are kinda weird asking for milf pics... Anyways my mom is still undecided about buying it. Shes more concerned for my education I think than a game. I will probably get the game off Steam. But its not a definite yes "right" now.

In that case not buying HL2 will make you depressed, hence, your performace at school will suffer :p

i dontn have a credit card, so i call home (from college) to get my parents to use theirs to buy HL2, and then take the money out of my account, and my dads says 'no'. I deffinitely didnt see that coming at all  , i mean its my frikin money and the h0 wont let me spend it casue he thinks HL2 will take over my mind from school work.

My parents are concerned that if Valve ever went banrkrupt, would I still have access to Steam? :dozey: I know this will never happen but say if something happens, Valve will not controll Steam and it will be lost. Will Steam still be available with my games if Valve goes broke? Please give evidence too.

heh theyre just making u sweat. Theyll do it just use ur big bambi eyes to get what u want :)

Oh I tried that once, Bambi eyes, but all my parents did was scream when I showed them the eyes I carefully cut out of the head of an unsuspecting deer. Some people.... :hmph:

Yes. Steam won't be updated however, but that's with all companies going bankrupt, but you'll still be able to use the Offline mode in Steam.
Steam will be able to run even if Valve doesn't exist anymore, however you won't be able to play online with it then.

But the games that I have purchased (on cd) with Valve, will they still be available to play? I am gonna be selling all my games except for 5. My parents don't wanna sell my cs:cz game and my HL platinum collection because they think that my games will be lost if Valve goes bankrupt. They say its not your choice they will just shut it down (Steam) and you can never play it again. :rolling: So I think what they are saying is that my account will be deleted with Valve because Steam is in their database.

Get older and leave home. Make your own money and buy your own stuff. Don't be a spoiled kid.
Wonderful, constructive advice :hmph:

Well im still waiting to start downloading CS:S, Im buying the bronze edition. Oh, that reminds me, does anyone know the file size of the Cs:S file? I might have to leave Steam on all night

tell them it will be your christmas present. that usually worked for me back in the day, and also they will foget about it and get you presents anyway.

HL2 will be a huge success. There is no way Valve is going bankrupt when it's about to be released.

So if Valve ever goes away, like Atari, will I lose all my games from Steam? Did you know that EB will pay you 50 cents for cs:cz? I had over 15 games that I wanted to sell and the price for all of them was $12.50! :flame: Is their anyway I can get more money outta of my used games? That Enter The Matrix game still gives my nightmares (crashing, slowdowns lol). But will I still be able to get and play on Steam even if Valve goes broke?!?!? Thanks.
