That's right! Everybody's favourite game developer is working on a new western-themed game - a little known at the moment. They recently launched a new site showing images from western era.

http://www.turtlerockstudios.com

I think the title could be "Whiskey Sour", which was a game mentioned in Left 4 Dead's level creation files. They're currently hiring level designers have experience with Hammer.

Yes - from what I know they're under Valve's management, but it doesn't stop them from doing independent titles. Michael Booth is still running the company.

Doesn't really mention anything on the site about a Western game apart from an image? We need more Western games though!

The paper on contacts page says June 6, 1889. I can't read the rest. There's a lot of western related images on the site - enough to say they're doing a western-based game.

God DAMN it's a good generation for the Western!

Yeah well, every other fantastical scenario that comes to mind has been shat on to death by now. Which is funny because action movies started by milking the wild west.

That's good news to me, man. I'd love it if the rugged gunslinger became the new space marine.

"The Great Seattle Fire was a fire that destroyed the entire central business district of Seattle, Washington, USA, on June 6, 1889."

Edit: Here's what paper says.

Turtle Rock Stage and Transportation Company
No: 17 - June 6, 1889

The honor (???), Mr. Ashton (or Ashtoln) has engaged 3 seats in an Armored Buckboard Carriage, through...Party of 4.

Edit: I'm trying to find the origin of this photo (it's from their about page).

It led me to this page: http://www.vokrugsveta***/telegraph/technics/296/ (it's in Russian) - it says the photo is from Ed Tangen archive - Library of Congress. It was taken after the civil war.

Edit: There it is.

i think it says '"The bearer, Mr. Ashton..."

really good work to find all that out. i wonder if we'll have to wait until june 6th for more info, or a release

Valve said that didn't work out for whatever reason. I know they dropped the "Valve South" title, but I don't know if the two developers are still officially in cahoots.

Turtle Rock's new gam- software is recently released - not sure what it does. It's some iPhone application for car freaks. You can get it from here:

So yeah. I hope they're still working on video games.

they should do a ww2 game. westerns are all played out

Why have they signed up with THQ? I mean they had a collaborative project with Valve from what I can remember (not the Western themed game which I can't see any evidence of continued development on). Perhaps we can assume they showed something to Valve and this time it didn't work out and they sought an alternative backer?

Hey guys, what's this about Turtle Rock Studios making a game? All this time I thought they had become part of Valve, which appears to be a contradiction to this announcement. Could somebody explain that please?

I thought Gabe said their assimilation into Valve was not manageable and so they broke off again.

Turtle Rock is no longer part of Valve.

After Valve swallowed them up and made the 'Valve South' studio they closed it down and moved some of the TR employees to Seattle and some others left I think. TR was then reborn as it is now and was making that western themed game which has now disappeared!?
