Summit Entertainment's vampire film "Twilight" was a tweens-and-teens phenomenon during the weekend, sinking its teeth into an estimated $70.6 million in a full-blooded bow that quickly spurred plans for a sequel.
/rage/

Heard annoying ass freshmen talking about this for an hour straight. GODDAMNET

Seriously, I couldn't go 2 minutes w/o heraing "OMG did you see Twilight?" OMG yeah! Edward is so cute!"

I hate being alive sometimes.

Don't even know what this is, but I lol'd heartily at this clip of a review from Metacritic:

Q: When is a vampire not a vampire? A: When it goes out in daylight, sees itself in a mirror, doesn’t drink human blood, and still manages to suck.

Oh that's great! Twilight is like my favourite series behind Harry Potter but I love them both so much I'm so excited to see this movie it looks great!

I guess the Vampires are "Vegetarian", well, the only drink animal blood. I also guess since they are "good", when exposed to sunlight they shine instead of burn.

The only reason this pathetic piece of trash is popular is because they advertised the living **** out of it at Hot Topic.

Yeah, Hot Topic definitely has the power to entirely create a hugely successful franchise with the majority of it's fans not even shopping at Hot Topic.

Is the only reason it made that much because it's based on a book or something? I've never heard of it before.

How did it make that much money? I heard the books were crap o_O

although IMO harry potter is the exact same scenario :|

"OMG, I totally want to marry him"
"He is SO HOT"
"I know right? Like, I would totally become a vampire just for him and..."

/me does schoolwork for once to escape the madness

vampires/werewolves/zombies/whatever never were cool or interesting and never will be, stop writing books and making films about this. shit.KTHXBY

Still not as bad as all the idiots who went and saw Meet The Spartans, making it quite successful.

I hate people.

i ****ing hate this movie and i've never seen it. i work at the AMC here when it opened and it was packed as fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu-

It's based on the book by the same name.
It got average reviews, it's main demographic is teenage girls. Everyone else is either 'it's meh,' or 'it's HORRIBLE.'
I am in the latter category.
I read one chapter, and the words that came to mind were 'fan-fic, mary-sue, and THIS IS HORRIBLE.'

Consider yourself lucky. Eighty percent of the students in my art class are women, women that constantly talk about Twilight ...even the teacher. A friend of mine in the class was convinced by his girlfriend to read the series, every time I see him reading one of them I tell him he looks rather gay today.

oh my god oh my god oh my god oh my god oh my god

What's really sad is that the much, much better movie "Let the Right One in" just came out a month ago with a rather similar story, but hardly anyone will watch it because it's Swedish. I hate hollywood.

^This^ looks INSANELY awesome...and not just in comparison. It looks phenomenal.

Twilight is utter garbage. 75% of the audiences this weekend were young women and/or girls. It will drop off and disappear. It does not have anything close to the draw of a Harry Potter. Ugh, the fact that this BS makes money makes me physically ill. :x

The opening etched Hardwicke into industry record books as the best bow for a female-directed film, outpacing 1998's $41.2 million opening of Mimi Leder's "Deep Impact."
Finally, a film better than Deep Impact!!
